What you'll be doing:

    • Translate complex energy concepts, utility structures, and technical findings into clear, actionable terms for non-technical decision makers across all client and prospect interactions.
    • Lead client-facing meetings to discuss energy usage, billing mechanics, and delivery cost components, including capacity and transmission charges, power factor, peak demand performance, and demand response programs.
    • Conduct cost-benefit analyses for energy efficiency upgrades, on-site generation, power storage, and electrification initiatives including compliance pathways such as NYC Local Law 97.
    • Serve as owner's representative on engagements where 5 is part of the project team, managing vendor and contractor relationships on the client's behalf to protect their interests and keep projects on track.
    • Monitor and communicate new utility programs, incentives, and regulatory changes that impact energy costs, then work collaboratively with clients to develop strategies that minimize spend and optimize their site's energy consumption.
    • Host Lunch & Learns and knowledge sessions for client facilities teams covering energy fundamentals, emerging programs, and building best practices.
    • Join prospect and client meetings alongside 5's advisors to provide technical depth, answer complex questions, and help close opportunities where engineering expertise makes the difference.
    • Contribute to improving 5's internal data workflows and client deliverables so that complex analysis is consistently presented in formats that are intuitive, visual, and decision-ready.

What you'll bring:

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, or a related Engineering discipline required.
    • 7+ years of experience in facilities engineering, energy engineering, consulting engineering, commissioning, or a similar role supporting commercial and industrial buildings.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical recommendations for clients and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Experience evaluating the technical and financial feasibility of energy efficiency, electrification, decarbonization, or capital improvement projects, including utility coordination and incentive programs.
    • Strong analytical skills with experience using Excel, AI tools, and other technologies to analyze energy data and improve engineering workflows.
    • Experience managing engineering projects and presenting technical findings to clients, vendors, consultants, and project teams.
    • Working knowledge of electricity and natural gas markets, utility tariffs, demand response, and utility incentive programs is preferred.
    • A collaborative, client-focused mindset with a desire to contribute to 5's high-performing, entrepreneurial culture.
    • This is a remote position. Candidates must reside in the Northeast, with a preference for the New York metro area, New Jersey, or Eastern Pennsylvania.
