Senior Engineer - Industrial (Solutions)

Location: Beachwood OH, Dearborn MI, Reading PA, Duluth GA, or Irving TX. 

Shift: Monday - Friday 8am -5pm. 

 

Position Summary

A Senior Engineer is responsible for preparing analyses to support projects involving all aspects of warehousing and distribution. This includes detailed analysis to determine optimal warehouse design, definition of functional requirements, material handling equipment applications, work measurement, data analysis, slotting, operations planning and operations improvements for both new and existing operations. In addition, a Senior Engineer is responsible for preparing analysis to support the sales and product line management teams in securing new warehousing business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of warehousing and distribution solutions for new business opportunities. Participate in cross functional teams for design, pricing, implementation, startup and support.
  • Provides the sales, product line management, and the operations teams with warehouse modeling and analytical support. This includes being able to effectively develop creative warehousing solutions for potential new customers in a timely manner through the RFP process.
  • Through appropriate analysis of sku data, order profiles, inventory holding requirements, inbound orders, and value added service requirements determine optimal facility layout and Material Handling Equipment (MHE ) requirements.
  • Creates flow diagrams for warehouse processes.
  • Has thorough understanding of Radio Frequency Technology and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). Knowledge of the JDA /Red Prairie WMS is a plus.
  • Develops functional specifications for WMS requirements.
  • Applies work measurement to create warehouse job standards.
  • Prepares installation and operating budgets for a warehousing design.
  • Uses accepted Industrial Engineering work analysis methods (for example, MOST – Maynard Operation Sequence Technique). Presents Penske Logistics warehousing modeling capabilities and solutions to new and existing customers.
  • Development and maintenance of engineered labor standards.
  • Establishes effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.
  • Provides operations with logistics modeling and technical support.
  • Attends training for new and enhanced decision support software applications to improve productivity and analysis quality.
  • Anticipated travel requirement--50 to 60%.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Must have Bachelors Degree in Logistics, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative field. Masters Degree preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of logistics/supply chain experience as a consultant or with a third party logistics organization or other comparable experience.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of warehousing concepts and familiarity with equipment/warehouse planning.
  • Must have working knowledge of warehouse value added services (i.e., kitting and light sub-assembly).
  • Must have experience with warehouse design and implementation for the retail industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of material handling equipment systems and applications.
  • Experience in developing customer proposals and presentations.
  • Exposure to Transportation and Supply Chain Logistics.

Software Skills

  • Must be able to effectively use the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio).
  • Must be able to effectively use MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) or a similar application.
  • Must be able to effectively use AutoCAD.
  • Exposure to product slotting software.
  • Exposure to or use of simulation software.
