Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Equipment and Tool Engineer located in Mesa, AZ.

Position Overview: As an Equipment and Tool Engineer, you will support the development and implementation of tooling for composite aircraft parts and assemblies. You will collaborate with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to integrate technical solutions across multiple disciplines, ensuring efficient manufacturing processes that meet stringent quality standards.

Position Responsibilities
  • Lead design, build specifications, and validation of production tooling.
  • Translate production requirements and engineering drawings into tooling concepts that meet dimensional tolerances, temperature/pressure requirements, and repeatability targets.
  • Specify materials, surface finishes, coatings, release agents, and dimensional control methods appropriate for composite processes.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to define tool handling, storage, and maintenance procedures.
  • Support troubleshooting of tooling-related production issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage tooling lifecycle activities: preventive maintenance schedules, repairs, rework, and eventual retirement/replacement.
  • Create and maintain tooling drawings, BOMs, inspection plans, and process control documentation.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and machine shops for fabrication, inspection, and modification of tooling.
  • Ensure tooling designs comply with safety, ergonomic, and environmental requirements.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 9 or more years' related work experience in Tool Engineering.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Proficient with CAD tools for tooling and fixture design.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on tooling/fixture experience in a production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of composite material behavior, cure/shrinkage characteristics, dimensional control, and surface finish requirements.
  • Experience generating tooling drawings, Tolerance stack-ups, GD&T, and BOMs.
  • Familiarity with inspection methods for tooling and parts (CMM, optical scanning, laser trackers).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
  • Master's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry, particularly with military or defense programs.
  • Knowledge of Boeing's organizational processes, program plans, and policies.
  • Composite fabrication experience
  • Existing valid US Security Clearance
  • Experienced with tooling supplier base or out plant tooling.
  • Experience in classical and finite element structural analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $126,650 - $171,350
