ClickUp is seeking a technical leader in SaaS client performance, dedicated to elevating the customer experience through world-class performance solutions. As a Senior Performance Engineer, you’ll drive end-to-end strategies to optimize application speed, memory, and reliability across our entire platform. You’ll be empowered to analyze, diagnose, and resolve performance bottlenecks wherever they occur—front-end, back-end, or infrastructure—ensuring ClickUp remains the fastest, most reliable productivity platform on the market.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on expert in browser and NodeJS performance, with a deep understanding of how code impacts rendering, memory, and user experience. You thrive on solving complex problems, collaborating across teams, and setting new standards for performance excellence. If you’re passionate about making a measurable impact for millions of users, this is your opportunity to lead at scale.

The Role:

  • Lead root cause analysis on client performance issues and conduct post-mortems.

  • Profile application code to isolate inefficient algorithms, memory leaks, and other issues; recommend and implement fixes.

  • Set up performance monitoring, alerting, and dashboards to proactively identify and resolve client performance problems.

  • Analyze client traffic patterns, load testing results, and other metrics to establish benchmarks and drive improvements.

  • Advocate for performance best practices and set client performance standards across the engineering organization.

  • Identify infrastructure improvements (caching, CDNs, database optimization) to enhance client experience.

  • Collaborate with development teams to embed performance as a core requirement in new feature development.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in performance engineering or a related field

  • Expertise with profiling tools for browsers and NodeJS

  • Deep knowledge of performance metrics, reporting, and analysis across the full stack

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret metrics, logs, and load test results

  • Strong background in performance engineering, including bottleneck analysis and root cause identification.

  • Advanced understanding of web/mobile architectures, HTTP protocols, caching, databases, and load balancing

  • Proven problem-solving skills and a passion for optimizing client experiences

  • Experience optimizing SQL and databases

  • Fluency in data structure and algorithm optimization

Bonus Points

We believe strong engineers can pick up new technologies quickly; experience with any of the following is a plus:

  • APM and RUM tooling (Datadog RUM/APM/DBM or similar)

  • AWS, Kubernetes, CDN technologies

  • PostgreSQL, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB (or comparable systems)

  • TypeScript and modern JavaScript frameworks

  • Performance testing frameworks and tools (for example Locust, memlab, or equivalents)

  • Python (or another scripting language used for automation/tooling)
