Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Full Stack Java Developer to support multiple application development initiatives for a Texas state agency based in Austin. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying enterprise-level web applications and web services in a hybrid work environment. 

This role involves front-end development with modern responsive frameworks, migration of legacy SOAP services to RESTful APIs, and enhancement of complex Java EE applications. The position requires strong problem-solving skills, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a focus on performance and maintainability. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop, test, and deploy web-based applications and RESTful APIs using Java EE, Angular, and related technologies. 

  • Convert existing SOAP-based services to modern RESTful architectures using JBoss EAP or similar application servers. 

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment. 

  • Collaborate with internal technical teams and external partners to integrate and enhance application functionality. 

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, data models, and design specifications. 

  • Analyze software systems for performance optimization, configuration tuning, and error resolution. 

  • Provide application support, including defect resolution and maintenance for production systems. 

  • Employ contemporary testing practices to ensure application quality and reliability. 

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices for application architecture and development standards. 

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in Front-End/UI development and server-side development for enterprise Java EE applications. 

  • Strong experience with Angular (4+ years minimum) and building Single Page Applications (SPAs) using TypeScript. 

  • Proven ability to design and implement RESTful web services with security standards such as JWT and OAuth. 

  • Proficiency with Java, Spring, JEE, REST/SOAP, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, JavaScript, JSON, XML, Struts, Maven, and OpenAPI v3. 

  • Experience integrating web services into Angular or React-based SPAs. 

  • Experience implementing responsive, client-facing applications. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in object-oriented design, application scalability, and modular development. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with JBoss EAP or IBM WebSphere Application Server (version 8 or higher). 

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies. 

  • Exposure to mobile or tablet application development. 

 

Work Environment 

  • Location: Austin, Texas (Hybrid – On-site and Remote) 

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (occasional evenings/weekends may be required) 

  • Duration: December 15, 2025 – August 31, 2026 (potential for extension) 

  • Employment Type: Contract (40 hours per week)

Compensation 

Competitive hourly rate based on experience. 
All travel or incidental expenses must be pre-approved and will adhere to Texas state travel guidelines.
