The Zebra, named a Best Place to Work in Austin four years running, is revolutionizing how connected consumers research and shop for insurance. We intentionally strive to build diverse teams that feel inclusive for all. Our motto is "All Stripes Welcome," and we put that into practice by valuing both traditional and non-conventional backgrounds and perspectives. Our Zeebs are passionate about learning, growing, & working together to tackle exciting problems.

The Zebra is seeking Full Stack Senior Software Engineers to expand our growing team. We currently have openings on two teams, one focused on SEO within our Growth Village and the other on integrating LLM and other machine learning models into our platform as part of our AI Village. Both teams are looking for experienced developers who can quickly learn new tools and work across the tech stack. Developers on the AI team will work on a broad set of technologies, predominantly on the backend, including data pipelines and leveraging LLMs for both internal and consumer facing applications. Developers on the SEO team will lead the technical evolution of our CMS (Wagtail) and marketing technology stack to drive organic growth, partnering closely with SEO, Marketing, and Design stakeholders to translate complex business growth goals into high-performance web experiences and technically sound SEO strategies.

You will need to be comfortable working both on experimental, rapid-prototyping projects and building long-term sustainable, scalable solutions. Our software engineers play a vital role in taking projects from spec to concept and building them with high-quality, creative, simple, and sophisticated solutions.

What You'll Do:

  • Work closely with other engineers, designers, and engineering leadership to rapidly build, iterate, test, and deploy new features and products and maintain a high-quality robust codebase

  • Scale and optimize existing products and tools to support The Zebra’s growth, ensuring our infrastructure remains maintainable and performant as we expand our market footprint

  • Act as a technical leader for the team and grow other engineers through example and mentorship

  • Comfort with Linux/Unix command line

  • Exceptional and proven web development experience

  • Eager to take ownership of work, including collaboration with collaborators and developers through the product development lifecycle

  • Track record of delivering quality code in a timely fashion, understanding where to draw the line between good and flawless

Experience that will Impress the Heck Out of Us:
  • Experience working in consumer-facing web products, growth-phase startups and/or using A/B testing and data to drive product decisions

  • Experience with Django, AWS, Looker, react, the .NET ecosystem, microservice architectures and web API design
