About Brightfield

At Brightfield, we are revolutionizing the way organizations manage their workforce. As a pioneer in workforce analytics, our AI-powered platform, TDX (Talent Data Exchange), helps the world’s largest companies make smarter decisions about how they design, source, and manage their extended workforce.

With over $575B in real-world workforce spend data from 139 countries, we provide the insights our customers need to reduce costs, manage risk, and unlock new levels of agility and performance. Since 2006, we’ve been trusted by the Global 2000 to guide strategic workforce decisions with clarity and confidence.

We are a fully remote team of data-driven innovators, problem solvers, and industry experts who value flexibility, ownership, and continuous learning. At Brightfield, how we work together matters—and we’re building a company where curious, driven people can do their best work.

About the Role

Brightfield is seeking a Senior Go Engineer to join our Core Services team, which owns the backend services behind Brightfield’s TDX platform. This is a hands-on role where you will design, build, and operate the Go services that power our core APIs and data access paths. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our services remain reliable, performant, and scalable as our traffic and data grow.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and operate Go services that power TDX’s core APIs and data access paths across HTTP and gRPC.
  • Own the reliability, performance, and scalability of the services you build, including how they perform as traffic and data volumes grow.
  • Build durable asynchronous processing for data-intensive workloads using queues and streams, with a focus on delivery semantics, idempotency, retries, and failure recovery.
  • Enhance and extend our observability capabilities in Datadog, including structured logging, metrics, tracing, and health signals.
  • Build and maintain shared Go packages and service patterns that other engineering teams depend on, with thoughtful versioning, documentation, and backward compatibility.
  • Debug and resolve production issues and participate in on-call responsibilities for the services your team owns.
  • Contribute to code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best practices across the team.
  • Mentor other engineers and help raise the technical bar across the organization.
  • Contribute to our evolving best practices for AI-assisted software development, including identifying where these tools are effective and ensuring their output is appropriately reviewed and verified.
What You Bring
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years building and operating production services in Go.
  • Strong proficiency in Go concurrency, with experience using concurrency patterns to scale real-world workloads, including sizing worker pools and bounding parallelism.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and designing for partial failure, including timeouts, retries with backoff and jitter, graceful degradation, and idempotency.
  • Experience building horizontally scalable services behind auto-scaling infrastructure, with an understanding of instance lifecycle, fast startup, and graceful shutdown.
  • A performance-oriented mindset, with experience measuring latency and throughput in production and using profiling and distributed traces to identify bottlenecks.
  • Strong SQL and relational database skills, including the ability to read query plans and reason about database performance as data volumes grow.
  • Experience designing and operating multi-tenant systems with appropriate tenant isolation.
  • Experience supporting production systems through on-call, debugging, testing, code review, and technical design.
  • Deep Unix/Linux experience, including comfort working in a terminal, writing shell scripts, and diagnosing running services.
  • Experience building service-to-service interfaces using gRPC and Protocol Buffers, with an understanding of backward compatibility across versions.
  • Proficiency with message queues and streaming platforms.
  • Production experience with Snowflake, MySQL, and Redis.
  • Ability to read and reason about Java services and work effectively across service boundaries.
  • Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code in daily development, with the ability to discuss specific work you've shipped using these tools and how you verified the resulting code.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Bonus: Experience in procurement, contingent workforce, or workforce technology.
Technologies You’ll Use
  • Languages: Go, SQL, Java, Shell
  • Technology: RESTful Web Services, gRPC, Docker, AWS
  • Data: MySQL, Snowflake, Redis
  • Messaging: Queues and streams
  • Tools: Git, Make, Jenkins, Claude Code, Datadog
