About the Company

Optain is a revolutionary healthcare company that uses groundbreaking software and hardware technology to rethink care. We use the eye as a window to the body to improve the way we detect and  manage eye and systemic conditions. Optain is committed to expanding and improving care through the introduction of AI and machine learning technology in frontline care settings at an accessible price. This not only promotes greater access to care, but promises to reduce the strains of overburdened healthcare systems.

Originally founded in Australia in 2019, Optain seeks to commercialize the inventions of Professor Mingguang He, a preeminent clinician-scientist and scholar in the field of ophthalmology. Optain has achieved regulatory approval and commercial adoption of its product suite in global markets, including Australia, Europe, and more.

In 2025, Optain received US FDA clearance for its Resolve retinal camera. Optain also recently closed a Series A funding round led by Insight Partners with participation from seven leading U.S. health system investors, including Memorial Hermann Health System, Northwell Health, Novant Health, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and UPMC. These systems collectively deliver care to 28 million patients across 25 states and have begun deploying Optain's platform across their networks, rapidly accelerating the company's footprint and expanding screening access nationwide.

About the Job

Optain is at an inflection point. We have FDA clearance, roughly 50,000 patients screened annually, and exponential growth in our enterprise segment. The operational infrastructure to support that growth is being built from zero right now, and this role owns that build.

As the Senior Manager, Customer & Commercial Operations, you will own US customer ops -- the function that connects our commercial momentum to actual customer outcomes. That means managing camera ordering and inventory from our manufacturing partners, getting hardware to new customers quickly and in step with our sales pipeline, standing up and running our US camera servicing function, and owning the contract execution process for new commercial agreements. Today these workflows are manual and founder-led. Your job is to take them over, run them well, and systematically redesign them for scale.

This is a remote, US-based position with occasional travel for team offsites and customer engagements.

What You'll Do
  • Hardware and customer deployment
    • Own the camera supply chain from factory to activated device -- forecast demand against a sales pipeline with no history, manage our manufacturing partner, and make sure hardware lands and goes live in step with new deals.
    • Stand up the US service function from scratch -- design how repairs, replacements, and loaner units work, and set the uptime our health system customers can count on
  • Commercial contracting
    • Run the deals -- partner with sales on commercial terms, draft and redline customer contracts, manage outside counsel where it is warranted, and drive agreements through to signature.
    • Design how we contract -- health systems, provider groups, and independent practices each need a different structure. You will shape the terms, including pilots built to convert into committed volume.
    • Secure the data rights our AI roadmap depends on. At Optain, contracts and data use terms are product strategy.
    • Build the contracting machinery -- reusable templates, workflow tooling, signing authority routing, and playbooks that make each deal faster than the last.
    • Manage legacy contract obligations inherited from an acquired business and support ongoing compliance with existing customer agreements.
  • Across both
    • Draft internal policies and SOPs to close operational gaps as the company grows.
    • Build the automation yourself. We expect you to use AI tooling to cut manual work out of these workflows directly. The goal is a function that scales without adding headcount linearly.
What You'll Need
  • 3-5 years in business or operations roles, with hands-on ownership of hardware logistics or commercial contract management (both is a plus).
  • Startup experience strongly preferred -- you have worked in a Series A or B environment and are comfortable operating without a defined playbook.
  • Prior experience in management consulting or investment banking is a plus -- we value the analytical rigor and work product standards that come with it.
  • Experience in a regulated industry is a strong plus; medical device, IVD, or health tech with a hardware component is ideal.
  • A systems thinker who leaves every process easier to run than they found it.
  • Hands-on with AI tooling, including building or automating real workflows.
  • Exceptional written communication and attention to detail.
  • Someone who takes ownership seriously, communicates proactively, and is comfortable operating with limited structure -- you will often be the one defining the process.
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation package, including a strong base salary, performance-based bonus, and meaningful equity.
  • This role is scoped to grow. As the US footprint expands, we expect the person in it to take on broader ownership of customer operations.
  • Top-tier health, vision, and dental benefits.
  • Generous monthly health and wellness reimbursement.
  • Unparalleled exposure to new business building at the intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare.
  • The opportunity to help solve difficult problems and collaborate with world-class experts from healthcare provider networks, academia, and industry.
  • A chance to work with a highly talented, close-knit team and world-leading mentors who can act as a support network and sounding board throughout your entrepreneurial journey.
Salary Range
  • $145,000 - $175,000 base salary, depending on experience and alignment with role expectations.

Why Optain? Make a real difference: Your work will help solve difficult problems as you collaborate with world-class experts from healthcare provider networks, academia, and industry. Join Optain in transforming healthcare with AI!
