We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

Summary:

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Manager, Product Design to co-lead product design for Clio Work and contribute to our growing Product Design team. This role is open to candidates across North America (US and Canada, excluding Quebec). If you are located near one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto), you will be expected to work in the office a minimum of twice per week on our designated Anchor Days.

About the role

Reporting to the Design Director for Work & Enterprise, you will play a critical leadership role as part of the extended design leadership team. You will be responsible for the product design experience within Clio Work, our AI-native workspace for the practice of law, where legal professionals and AI collaborate on substantive legal work. You will drive design strategy, foster a high-performing team, and partner closely with Product and Engineering leadership to deliver exceptional user experiences.

Clio Work brings together research, analysis, drafting, and court interactions in a single intelligent environment that understands both the matter at hand and the law that governs it. Legal professionals today juggle fragmented tools: research in one place, drafting in another, and filing and case tracking in others still. Design plays a central role in solving this, helping shape how lawyers and their staff do substantive, high-value legal work with more speed, confidence, and quality.

Design is central to Clio's R&D, working alongside Product and Engineering to revolutionize legal tech. We empower our Designers to deeply understand user needs, shaping how lawyers serve their clients. If you are passionate about user-centered design, mission-driven companies, and transforming how lawyers and their staff deliver exceptional client services, join us!

What you’ll do
  • Strategic design leadership: Define and drive the design vision and strategy for your area of Clio Work, partnering with Product and Engineering to translate business goals, data, and customer insights into actionable design strategies and solutions, while providing leadership and mentorship within the design org.

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Build, lead, and mentor a team of product designers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of design into the product development lifecycle.

  • Design Process & Standards: Establish and continuously improve design processes, standards, and best practices, ensuring consistency and scalability across your area of Clio Work.

  • User-Centered Advocacy: Champion user-centered design principles, leveraging user research and data to inform design decisions and drive product improvements.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate design concepts, strategies, and rationale to stakeholders at all levels, influencing product direction.

  • Performance Management & Development: Hire and develop the best. Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support the professional development of your team.

  • Resource Planning: Manage design resources and forecast future needs, ensuring the team is adequately staffed to meet product goals.

  • Design System Contribution: Contribute to and evolve Clio's design system, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the platform.

What you bring
  • 10+ years of experience in product design, with experience shipping AI-native enterprise software required.

  • 5+ years of experience managing and leading product design teams.

  • Proven track record of shipping high quality, impactful work in complex and regulated problem spaces.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing design teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to make hard decisions with accountability and transparency.

  • Removes ambiguity, is adaptable and flexible.

  • Understand key business metrics, user needs and how to connect them to Design.
