At Macmillan Learning, we're committed to driving innovation that transforms education. We seek team members who thrive on pushing boundaries, envisioning future possibilities, and building solutions that make a lasting impact. Whether you're a Pioneer shaping bold new ideas, a Builder turning possibilities into reality, or a Stabilizer optimizing for success, you'll play a vital role in advancing our mission. If you're excited by the prospect of testing new technologies, implementing transformative strategies, and thriving in a fast-paced, innovative environment, we'd love to hear from you!

Macmillan Learning is a business in transformation. Within our High School division, BFW Publishers, we're looking for a Senior Media Editor who can build on the processes, systems, and data already in place and find ways to work more efficiently. That includes the thoughtful use of AI and automation to simplify work and create capacity for higher-value activities.

You'll work with the Course Product Manager to understand customer needs and recommend courses of action for the media program, together with the program manager and media and assessment leadership. You'll coordinate the creation and publication of digital and ancillary resources that support teaching and learning, partnering with authors, vendors, freelancers, and colleagues in content development, sales, marketing, and product. This role works across all high school course areas.

We know some talented people hesitate to apply when they don't check every box on a list. If this role has you excited and you believe you could do the work well, we want to hear from you, even if your path here doesn't match every requirement exactly. We're looking for people who care about our mission and bring their own perspective to the table. Different backgrounds, skills, and ways of working make us better at what we do. If this opportunity speaks to you, tell us how your experience and abilities could add value here. We want Macmillan Learning to be a place where everyone can do their best work and where different viewpoints are genuinely welcome, so if you're a qualified candidate, we hope you'll apply. We're looking forward to learning what you'd bring to the team.

What You'll Do

  • You'll plan, initiate, and oversee projects in coordination with the Program Manager, Development Editor, Content Producer, Product, and Production.
  • You'll keep project stakeholders informed about status, issues, scheduling, and budget, and share evolving information from Product, Engineering, and Program Management.
  • You'll assess user needs and join status and exploratory meetings with fellow editors to plan content that works effectively with platform functionality.
  • You'll recommend and implement changes to schedules, budgets, or content based on new functionality on the horizon.
  • You'll correspond with multimedia authors about their products and tasks, helping them prioritize and deliver quality, on-time content for turnover to production.
  • You'll identify, assess, hire, and correspond with vendors and freelancers on multimedia content and projects.
  • You'll manage assigned in-flight projects, assessing their status, connecting with colleagues, authors, and vendors, and continuing or revising the workflow as needed.
  • You'll assess our processes for efficiency opportunities and pilot AI and automation in internal and authoring processes, documenting effective practices and measuring changes in turnaround time, cost, or capacity while maintaining editorial quality.
  • You'll evaluate and negotiate input from marketing and sales on customer-related requests, and provide copy, preliminary files, and tables of contents for marketing and sales tools.
  • You'll attend relevant conferences, sales presentations, and company meetings to promote our products and gather market information.

What You'll Bring

  • A bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in a discipline associated with the role
  • 5+ years of editorial experience in educational publishing or educational technology, including 3+ years of media editorial experience
  • Senior-level judgment and leadership
  • Organizational and project management skills, including managing multiple projects at once in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing effectively, working through problems with a group, and staying within an approved budget
  • Attention to detail, self-motivation, and a commitment to quality, including improving how you assess vendors and authors, ensure diligent content development and QA, and refine authorship guidelines
  • Written and verbal communication skills that you can adapt for different audiences
  • Experience managing authors and freelancers, talking with users of our products, and collaborating across functions with internal stakeholders
  • An understanding of how digital content and platform functionality work together
  • Interest in finding and assessing the authors, freelancers, and vendors who can help us deliver on our mission
  • Facility with AI prompting and with building or testing AI tools, and an understanding of the legal and ethical limits of AI use
  • Experience with Google Workspace
