The Job

The Senior Network Automation Engineer leads the design, development, and implementation of network automation solutions that improve the scalability, reliability, security, and operational efficiency of enterprise, cloud, and data center environments. The role combines advanced network engineering expertise with software development, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and cloud networking practices to automate provisioning, configuration management, compliance validation, monitoring, and operational workflows.

As a senior technical contributor, the position works closely with Network Engineering, Infrastructure, Cloud Operations, Security, and Architecture teams to drive automation strategy, establish engineering best practices, reduce operational complexity, and accelerate service delivery across on-premises and multi-cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise-scale network automation frameworks, platforms, and workflows.

  • Architect and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Python, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Develop automation for network provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, compliance validation, lifecycle management, and operational processes.

  • Build and maintain integrations leveraging REST APIs, JSON, YAML, GraphQL, SDKs, and modern automation interfaces.

  • Create reusable automation modules, libraries, and templates to standardize network deployments and operational procedures.

  • Design and support automation solutions across on-premises infrastructure and cloud networking environments, including AWS, GCP, and Azure.

  • Collaborate with Network Engineering teams to identify automation opportunities, eliminate manual processes, and improve service delivery speed and consistency.

  • Establish automation testing standards, code review processes, and software development best practices.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve automation workflows, network infrastructure issues, and system performance concerns.

  • Lead root cause analysis efforts for production incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Configure, support, and optimize enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and related technologies.

  • Develop proactive monitoring, observability, and reporting capabilities to improve network availability and operational efficiency.

  • Participate in the planning and execution of network upgrades, migrations, transformations, and cloud adoption initiatives.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, architecture diagrams, runbooks, and operational procedures.

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on automation projects and engineering best practices.

  • Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions and technical training for team members and stakeholders.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical production environments.

  • Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team as well as with co-workers/ teammates and leaders across the organization. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications  

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 7+ years of experience in network engineering, network operations, infrastructure engineering, or network architecture.

  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing network automation solutions using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar technologies.

  • Experience designing and implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks and automation platforms.

  • Strong experience working with REST APIs, JSON, YAML, Git, and automation integrations.

  • Advanced understanding of enterprise networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing and switching, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, network security, and high-availability architectures.

  • Strong experience supporting Linux and Windows operating systems.

  • Experience managing network infrastructure across leading enterprise networking platforms, including Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, F5, Fortinet, or similar technologies.

  • Experience with automation testing, version control, deployment pipelines, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and drive outcomes in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise, cloud, service provider, or hyperscale network environments.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP networking services.

  • Expertise with CI/CD tools and platforms such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.

  • Experience with network observability, monitoring, and telemetry platforms.

  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including unit testing, code reviews, and agile development methodologies.

  • Experience with SD-WAN, data center networking, leaf-spine architectures, EVPN/VXLAN, network security automation, and Zero Trust architectures.

  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Familiarity with Python frameworks and automation libraries such as Nornir, Netmiko, NAPALM, PyATS, and Paramiko.

  • Industry certifications such as Cisco CCNP or CCIE, Cisco DevNet Professional, AWS Advanced Networking Specialty, Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer, Palo Alto PCNSE, CompTIA Security+, HashiCorp Terraform Associate, or equivalent certifications.

Location 

Remote. To be considered for this role, you must reside near the following locations: Miami, FL, Austin, TX, Pecos, TX, Denton, TX, Muskogee, OK, Grand Forks, ND, Calvert City, KY, Marble, NC, Dalton, GA or Auburn, AL 

Travel  

Frequent travel may be required as needed. (Up to 50% of time worked)

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely utilizes standard office equipment, including laptop computers and smartphones.

Physical Demands  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and lift up to 50 pounds.   

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work  

This is a full-time position. General hours and days of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some nights and weekends may be required.
