Role Description

Network Engineers are responsible for the infrastructure that connects our users to Dropbox services. This network transits traffic for all tenants of Dropbox serving infrastructure, including our in-house multi-exabyte storage system (Magic Pocket), large scale databases, edge POP infrastructure, and all user-facing services.

We’re looking for a Cloud Network Engineer to join Dropbox’s Infrastructure Engineering organization. In this role, you’ll partner closely with SREs, Network Reliability Engineers, and Infrastructure Engineers to design, build, and operate Dropbox’s multi-cloud environment across GCP, AWS, and OCI.

You’ll take a hands-on role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of our global cloud network, while driving improvements in automation, observability, and cost efficiency. This position offers the opportunity to tackle complex, large-scale infrastructure challenges—spanning cloud networking, compute, storage, and service delivery—and to help shape the next generation of Dropbox’s cloud architecture.

Our Engineering Career Framework is viewable by anyone outside the company and describes what’s expected for our engineers at each of our career levels. Check out our blog post on this topic and more here.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of Dropbox’s global cloud and corporate network environments across AWS, GCP, OCI, and Azure.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure health using Datadog, and synthetic testing frameworks.
  • Contribute to Cloud migrations and optimization of enterprise wireless performance.
  • Develop, test, and maintain infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, and Python to streamline provisioning, configuration, and change management.
  • Build and maintain observability dashboards and alerts for network and cloud performance, availability, and cost optimization.
  • Author and maintain detailed runbooks, operational documentation, and training guides to promote shared understanding and reliability practices.
  • Partner with Security to improve Dropbox’s network segmentation, traffic inspection, and zero-trust posture across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

Many teams at Dropbox run Services with on-call rotations, which entails being available for calls during both core and non-core business hours. If a team has an on-call rotation, all engineers on the team are expected to participate in the rotation as part of their employment. Applicants are encouraged to ask for more details of the rotations to which the applicant is applying.

Requirements
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience.
  • 9+ years of experience as a Cloud, Cloud Network, or Infrastructure Engineer in production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud networking, including VPC/VNet/VCN, routing, IP addressing, Transit Gateway / Virtual WAN / DRG, and IPsec VPNs.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, and/or OCI.
  • Experience with hybrid connectivity (Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, Interconnect, FastConnect).
  • Solid background in network security, including firewalls, WAF, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Experience with Terraform and Ansible for Infrastructure as Code and automation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in cloud network architecture, including hub-and-spoke or transit-based designs and multi-region deployments.
  • Experience with cloud-native and third-party security platforms, such as WAFs, network firewalls, or Zero Trust / ZTNA solutions.
  • Experience developing or supporting CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and network deployments.
  • Familiarity with observability and logging platforms and using metrics, logs, and traces to improve reliability.
