JOB SUMMARY:

 The Senior Platform Engineer position is a short-term remote project (6-month) for CU Boulder that supports day-to-day operations of enterprise application platforms, automates processes, and ensures reliable delivery of business services. This role works across integration, identity, analytics, and containerized environments deployed on-premises and in the cloud.

This position is responsible for configuring, maintaining, and supporting application environments, collaborating with stakeholders on system implementations, and resolving escalated operational issues. The role also contributes to automation initiatives, system improvements, and overall platform reliability.


SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 Support day-to-day operations of the CU Boulder following systems:

  • Middleware & Integration:
    • Oracle Fusion Middleware suite (OSB, SOA/BPEL, WebLogic)
    • Oracle Identity Management (OIM), Oracle Unified Directory (OUD)
    • PeopleSoft, DTC, ODIN
  • Data & Databases:
    • Neo4j (graph database)
  • Identity & Access / Integration Platforms:
    • Sunapsis
  • Analytics & Reporting:
  • Tableau, Cognos
  • Containerization & Platform Management:
    • Rancher (Docker/Kubernetes environments)
  • Logging, Monitoring & Observability:
    • Graylog, Grafana, OpenSearch
  • Infrastructure & Systems:
    • Operating system patching and upgrades (Linux/Windows)
    • Cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)
  • Automation & Configuration Management:
    • Ansible, Bash, Python
  • Maintain, monitor, patch, and upgrade application and middleware environments
  • Manage and support logging, monitoring, and reporting platforms
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues; perform root cause analysis
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, and production rollouts
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Document system configurations, processes, and operational procedures
  • Evaluate and recommend tools to improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Coordinate and participate in maintenance windows, including after-hours activities

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced configuration management skills with Ansible
  • Advanced experience in Unix/Linux systems administration
  • Shell scripting in bash and Python or equivalent programming skills
  • Experience working with Rancher 2 and Kubernetes
  • Experience working with Neo4J, Cognos, Sunapsis, Tableau
  • Experience with Graylog and/or Grafana
  • Demonstrated experience logging with the Elastic Stack (aka ELK Stack) and Graylog
  • Demonstrated experience monitoring with Icinga or equivalent
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Experience with Oracle middleware stack (OSB, OIM, OUD, WebLogic, etc.)
  • OS patching and upgrade processes
  • AWS or similar cloud platforms

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

If working at a Trace3 office, the employee is frequently surrounded by other employees and their conversations on the telephone and in person.  The noise level and indoor office temperature may vary.   

Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors, including location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in the base salary.

$80$110 USD
