Raytheon is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our Digital Technology Analytics & Automation Applied Artificial Intelligence team.

What You Will Do

As a Senior Principal Data Scientist, you will work across functional areas to support the application of data science and software engineering methods and techniques for production-scale internal use and external research. You will collaborate with stakeholders across Raytheon, RTX, and the Applied Artificial Intelligence team to develop analytic products for agile delivery, spanning manufacturing, engineering, business development, and supply chain functions. This role allows you to influence organizational standards by researching and deploying technical solutions for customers as part of a broader ecosystem of machine learning and advanced analytics professionals.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience

  • Experience with Python development (numpy, scipy, scikit-image, and scikit-learn) for integration into statistical and/or machine learning applications (beyond academic examples).

  • Experience with relational databases management and SQL development.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • ​Experience meeting with business stakeholders to identify and develop requirements for strategic use cases and research opportunities, and translating these into scalable data products using Scaled Agile Framework methodology.

  • Proficiency in applying quantitative techniques (normalization, standardization, applied statistics) to cleanse, explore, and analyze large, complex data sets and build machine learning models, including deploying models in public cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.

  • Expertise in designing, training, fine-tuning, and deploying Large Language Models (LLMs) (e.g., GPT-based, Mistral, custom transformer architectures), as well as complex neural network architectures, GPU programming, and network optimization for data science applications.

  • Proficiency with at least one deep learning framework, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, and experience with commercial software development practices, including code documentation, unit testing, version control, and MLOps concepts.

  • Experience building data visualizations with tools such as Tableau or Microsoft Power BI and managing high-performance compute tools (e.g., Slurm, HTCondor) to support advanced analytics and machine learning workflows.

  • Remote: This position currently is designated as remote. Employees who are working in remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home) but may be expected to travel to the site location as needed. The successful candidate for this role will be required to reside and work from one of the 50 U.S. states (excluding U.S. territories).

As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
