Summary

The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for developing, facilitating, implementing, and sustaining process safety programs that support safe, reliable, and compliant manufacturing operations. This role provides technical leadership and expertise in process hazard analysis, risk management, engineering standards, and capital project execution while supporting the organization's Process Safety Roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

Process Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis

  • Lead and facilitate process hazard analyses (PHAs), risk assessments, and hazard reviews for capital projects and targeted manufacturing processes.

  • Identify process safety risks and recommend mitigation measures to reduce operational and project-related hazards.

  • Support the implementation and closure of action items resulting from hazard evaluations and risk assessments.

Working knowledge or experience with Functional Safety.  

Process Safety Program Development

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve process safety standards, procedures, and best practices that align with corporate process safety objectives and the Engineering Process Safety Roadmap.

  • Ensure process safety management systems remain current with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and corporate expectations.

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and EHS teams to integrate process safety principles into business processes.

Capital Project Support

  • Provide process safety technical expertise to capital project teams throughout project design, development, and execution phases.

  • Review engineering designs and project documentation to ensure compliance with process safety requirements and standards.

  • Support Management of Change (MOC) activities related to project implementation.

Process Safety Auditing and Compliance

  • Partner with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) teams to plan and conduct process safety audits and assessments.

  • Evaluate compliance with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Develop recommendations and track corrective actions to completion.

Training and Capability Development

  • Deliver process safety training and awareness programs to capital project teams and other stakeholders.

  • Promote process safety culture and knowledge throughout the organization.

  • Support competency development related to process safety management principles and practices.

Process Safety Systems and Tools Management

  • Maintain, administer, and upgrade hazard review and risk assessment software systems, including ARA software.

  • Ensure process safety data, documentation, and reporting tools remain accurate and effective.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis and system enhancements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 10 years of process safety experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting capital projects, process hazard analysis, and process safety management systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in Chemical manufacturing processes and plant operations, Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and risk management methodologies, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards and regulations.

  • Ability to travel 20-30%

The expected compensation range for this position is between $123,690.00 and $181,412.00 plus discretionary bonuses. The exact compensation may vary based on your skills, experience and other factors permitted by law.
