About Us:

Ground News is a news comparison platform that makes it easy to compare sources, read between the lines of media bias, and break free from algorithms. We give people the tools to understand the world across perspectives; to see how a story is being framed, and recognize what they're not being shown.

We believe a healthy civil society depends on citizens who can navigate the information ecosystem with clarity and independence, rather than retreat into echo chambers or outsource their judgment.

Unlike most tech platforms, we don't rely on algorithms to keep users hooked so we can sell ads. We're supported by readers who pay for a subscription to build a more nuanced understanding of the news, the world, and themselves.

The Opportunity:

Our team is a group of critical thinkers building the category-defining platform for news literacy, with a fast-growing global audience across iOS, Android, and web. Our subscribers come to us to read past the headline and understand how stories are actually being covered.

As a Senior Product Lead, you'll own core parts of the Ground News experience: how people discover and navigate coverage, how our bias, factuality, and source-intelligence signals show up in the product, and how the everyday reading experience turns curious readers into loyal subscribers.

This is a high-ownership role for a consumer product leader who thinks in terms of engagement, conversion, and retention as much as craft. You'll report to the Head of Product, partner closely with our founders to keep us pointed at what matters most; and work alongside a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, ML practitioners, and analysts.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with the Head of Product to shape direction, then own the ideation, development, and launch of features that help people understand the news across perspectives.

  • Translate bias, factuality, and source-intelligence signals into simple, intuitive experiences that a broad consumer audience can understand and trust.

  • Partner with Marketing, Analytics, and Customer Success to drive subscriber growth and retention, with an eye to turning the everyday reading experience into sustainable reasons to upgrade and stay.

  • Analyze product metrics and user feedback to identify opportunities and optimize product performance.

  • Use a mix of quantitative data, experimentation, and user research to surface user behavior insights and make prioritization calls.

  • Set a high bar for quality and craft across the news-consumption experience.

  • Ship high-impact improvements at an effective cadence, balancing rapid iteration with our commitment to even-handedness and subscriber trust.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 7+ years of product management experience, majority in user-centric consumer products with large, engaged user bases.

  • A track record in subscription or B2C products; analyzing conversion, retention, and engagement metrics, and growing usage across mobile and web.

  • Exceptional product taste and an intuition for what makes an experience both delightful and trustworthy.

  • Strong analytical thinking and experimentation fluency.

  • A technical background, or a proven ability to work effectively with engineering and ML teams.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management, including with founders and senior leaders.

  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, and bring structure to it.

  • Genuine interest in media literacy and the information ecosystem.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with personalization or habit-forming products with an interest in shaping habits that make people better informed.

  • Familiarity with structured content systems like knowledge graphs, entity models, or organizing real-time information into coherent stories.

  • Experience helping optimize acquisition funnels and conversion flows.
