Dive in and do the best work of your career at DigitalOcean. Journey alongside a strong community of top talent who are relentless in their drive to build the simplest scalable cloud. If you have a growth mindset, naturally like to think big and bold, and are energized by the fast-paced environment of a true industry disruptor, you’ll find your place here. We value winning together—while learning, having fun, and making a profound difference for the dreamers and builders in the world.
We’re seeking a technically strong Product Manager to lead Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for our customers. This role is focused on building customer-facing identity and collaboration capabilities—not internal enterprise IT systems. You’ll define and deliver the foundational security layer that enables customers to securely manage users, teams, projects, and cloud resources at scale.
You will own the strategy for DigitalOcean’s identity platform, spanning user onboarding, authentication (e.g., 2FA), and fine-grained role-based access controls. In parallel, you’ll drive the vision for machine identity—enabling workloads and services to securely authenticate and interact using modern, short-lived credentials instead of static secrets.
As the IAM/RBAC Technical Product Manager, you will set the roadmap for Customer Identity (CIAM) and secure collaboration, partnering closely with engineering, design, security, sales, and customers to deliver scalable, high-impact solutions. You’ll measure product performance, incorporate customer feedback, and continuously evolve the platform to meet the needs of growing, security-conscious organizations.
What You’ll Be Doing:- Own the vision for Platform IAM
Set and drive the long-term strategy for identity and access management across the platform. Define the roadmap for access controls, permissions, and secure authentication protocols that protect customers while enabling growth. - Design modern workload identity systems
Lead the development of a cloud-native workload identity framework that enables compute resources to assume ephemeral, short-lived identities for secure, least-privilege access to platform services. - Establish service authorization
Define standards and deliver solutions for secure service-to-service authentication and authorization. Ensure backend systems communicate and verify one another within a scalable architecture. - Deliver developer-first security experiences
Translate complex security and compliance requirements into intuitive, API-first capabilities. Build seamless permission management experiences across Droplets, Databases, Kubernetes, and other core products. - Enable secure multi-tenancy and collaboration
Define how modern, digital- and AI-native organizations manage service accounts, and securely share resources within the ecosystem—balancing flexibility with strong governance controls. - Lead cross-functional roadmap execution
Partner with engineering, security, compliance, and go-to-market teams to prioritize and deliver scalable IAM capabilities that meet business goals and the demands of a global cloud platform. - Measure impact and continuously improve
Establish clear KPIs to track adoption, reliability, performance, and customer outcomes. Use data and feedback to iterate and evolve IAM capabilities over time. - Champion the customer voice
Engage directly with customers and the developer community to understand emerging needs and ensure IAM solutions support secure, scalable growth. - Ensure security and regulatory alignment
Drive compliance with global security standards and privacy regulations, embedding best practices into all customer-facing identity products.
- Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of cloud-scale identity protocols (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, SPIFFE) and how they apply to cloud environments.
- Product Craft: Ability to design “infrastructure-as-the-product,” focusing on ease of use and developer-centric workflows for customers of various capabilities.
- Communication: Exceptional skills in influencing cross-functional teams and articulating the value of security features to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strategic Problem Solving: Capacity to think through complex authorization models and resource-sharing logic at a platform level.
- Customer Centricity: Passion for understanding the friction points developers face when managing security and building solutions that remove those hurdles.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Product Management, specifically focused on customer-facing IAM, security, or cloud infrastructure products.
- Proven experience in managing the full product lifecycle for high-scale, multi-tenant software.
- Deep understanding of IAM/RBAC technologies, cloud-based systems, and cybersecurity principles
- Knowledge of common IAM protocols and standards (e.g., OAuth, OpenID Connect, SCIM).
- Prior experience working with Agile development methodologies.
- Familiarity with cloud hosting, virtualization, and API-first product design.
- 5+ years of experience in IAM or security-related product roles.
- Experience building customer identity and access management (CIAM) systems or developer tools.
- Deep familiarity with SPIFFE/SPIRE, OIDC-based workload federation, or designing automated credential management systems for large-scale cloud environments.
- Professional certifications like CISSP, CISM, CISA, or relevant product management certifications.
- Past success in shaping highly scalable software products with an eye on ease-of-use.
- $159,200 - $199,000
