Aypa Power, a Blackstone portfolio company, is a leading developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable projects that power our communities and cities. Our mission is to responsibly decarbonize the grid and make North American energy markets more affordable, sustainable, and efficient. Aypa is well-capitalized and uniquely positioned to lean forward on projects with well-suited deal structures to meet our customers’ needs. We have been at the forefront of energy storage development since our first energy storage project came online in 2018. As a leader in our industry, we have over 22 GW of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in development and 33 projects in operation or construction across North America.

The Senior SCADA Engineer (Operations) provides advanced technical leadership and hands-on support for SCADA, controls, and OT (Operational Technology) systems across a fleet of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage (BESS) sites and Solar sites. This role is a key operational partner to site operations, performance engineering, and network/IT teams—ensuring high availability, safe remote operability, accurate telemetry, and reliable integration with EMS/AGC and market interfaces.

As a senior member of the operations team, you will serve as a primary technical point of contact for assigned sites or regions, leading incident response and problem management, driving root-cause analysis for recurring issues, and improving monitoring, alerting, documentation, and support workflows. You will also mentor junior engineers and help standardize OT practices across the fleet.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as support for SCADA and controls incidents impacting BESS site availability, dispatchability, and telemetry quality;
  • Lead real-time troubleshooting of SCADA servers, gateways, historians, alarms, site controllers, BMS interfaces, PLC/RTU/IED communications, and OT networking components;
  • Own incident coordination with internal operations, performance, IT, and cybersecurity teams, as well as external OEMs and integrators;
  • Ensure reliable telemetry and control required for utility and ISO operations, including MW/MWh, state of charge, availability, breaker status, alarms, and limits;
  • Maintain accurate point lists, scaling, timestamps, and naming conventions;
  • Resolve data quality issues such as stale values, incorrect scaling, and inconsistent calculations;
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, alerts, and KPIs to improve fleet reliability and reduce mean time to resolution;
  • Lead root cause analysis for recurring failures and track corrective actions with vendors and internal teams;
  • Maintain site documentation, including as-builts, tag databases, and recovery procedures;
  • Review and support OT changes with clear rollout and rollback plans;
  • Drive fleet standardization and best practices across OEMs and integrators;
  • Review design and implementation of new project sites coming online;
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience;
  • 5+ years of experience in SCADA, controls, or OT operations, preferably in power generation, renewables, or BESS;
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across distributed OT systems and industrial networks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with BESS controllers, inverters, BMS, and plant controllers;
  • Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, SQL;
  • Experience with platforms such as Ignition, SEL RTAC, or N3uron;
  • Scripting or automation experience (Python, PowerShell, Bash);
  • Experience working with different ISOs such as CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, etc.

Compensation and Location:

Salary: A base salary commensurate with experience;
Bonus: An annual bonus will be awarded based on individual performance and the overall success of the business;
Benefits: Aypa offers an attractive benefits package with excellent health care/dental/vision, 401k matching, unlimited vacation, paid parental leave, and other health/wellness benefits;
Location: Remote (USA). The ability to work in the United States is a requirement;
Travel: <20%

At Aypa, we nurture and support a highly diverse team and actively seek to advance fair and inclusive practices in all aspects of what we do. We hire passionate, dedicated, and forward-thinking individuals from different backgrounds and value unique perspectives and experiences.
