This role will be working on our Poe product.

About the Team and Role:

Our small engineering team works on challenging problems every day. We have a culture that's rooted in constantly learning and improving, and our engineers are encouraged to think big and experiment with new ideas. With continuous deployment, we ship changes quickly and iterate fast. Our engineers focus on creating polished products and writing high quality code by designing APIs and abstractions that are extensible and maintainable. We value development velocity and invests heavily in tools and frameworks that help a lean team to move faster and achieve more. Everyone on the engineering team has a significant impact on our product and company.

The Platform team focuses on increasing the productivity of product developers (including engineers, designers, and data scientists) by building tools, frameworks, and abstractions that make their work easier. This team’s projects range from building reusable component libraries to enhancing debugging tools that improve the development lifecycle. There are many impactful challenges in advancing our frameworks and systems across our modern architecture, supporting both our AI product, Poe, and the core Quora platform.

In this role, you’ll be working with other members of the team across a variety of projects to improve efficiency of product developers, with a focus on supporting the Poe product. You'll work closely with Poe product teams to understand pain points and build tools to increase their velocity. You'll be working mainly with Python and modern Javascript frameworks like React, NextJS, GraphQL and Relay. This role is great for full-stack generalists who enjoy empowering other developers, eager to learn and execute in different parts of the stack.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and build tools that make Poe and Quora product developers (engineers, designers, data scientists) more efficient

  • Contribute to building and maintaining reusable components used by developers

  • Collaborate closely with product teams to identify pain points and understand developer workflow challenges

  • Drive proposals and initiatives to address developer challenges and adopt new frameworks

Minimum Requirements:
  • Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's “coordination hours" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field, or a completion of coding bootcamp or equivalent work experience

  • 4+ years of experience working with large scale codebases and systems, particularly web applications and frontend architecture

  • 4+ years of experience building APIs that are used by large teams

  • 2+ years of experience working with React and GraphQL

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience and strong interest in building tools to support other developers, or client-side performance. This may include contributions to open source projects

  • Experience with NextJS, Relay or similar modern web framework

  • Interest in working full-stack

  • Passion for building reliable, performant consumer internet products

There are many factors that will determine the starting pay, including but not limited to experience, location, education, and business needs.

  • US candidates only: For US based applicants, the salary range is $172,279 - $249,640 USD + equity + benefits.

  • Canada candidates only: For Toronto and Vancouver based applicants, the salary range is $225,933 - $261,909 CAD + equity + benefits. For all other locations in Canada, the salary range is $210,871 - $244,449 CAD + equity + benefits.
