Lead frontend delivery for ticketing across React web and React Native mobile: design and ship resilient purchase, redemption, and event-day features, improve observability, testing, reliability, and mentor engineers while collaborating with product, design, and backend teams.
Join PlayOn as a Senior Software Engineer on our Ticketing team and lead the evolution of our platform that spans digital ticket purchase, redemption, point-of-sale, and event-management experiences in the high-school and youth sports space.
PlayOn is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead frontend delivery across React web and React Native mobile ticketing experiences. This role is for an engineer who operates with little supervision, owns meaningful product and technical outcomes, and improves team execution through mentorship, engineering quality, and production reliability practices.
The outcomes you'll deliver:
- Reliable ticketing journeys: ship resilient experiences for purchase, redemption, and event-day operations across web and mobile.
- Stronger trust-critical behavior: reduce failures in high-impact flows like checkout, pass access, and gate scanning under peak load.
- Better cross-surface consistency: align customer and operator experiences with shared standards, reusable patterns, and predictable UX behavior.
- Safer product changes: improve release confidence through stronger instrumentation, rollout practices, and clear rollback readiness.
- Higher engineering quality: raise expectations for code review, test coverage, documentation, and operational ownership.
- Faster issue recovery: improve incident response and follow-through for production defects that affect schools, fans, and partners.
In this role, you can expect to
- Design and deliver medium-to-large features across fan-facing and operator-facing ticketing workflows.
- Build and improve React + TypeScript web experiences and React Native mobile functionality in production systems.
- Partner with backend teams on API contracts, data correctness, and failure handling in trust-critical paths.
- Strengthen frontend architecture to improve maintainability, delivery speed, and cross-team contribution safety.
- Improve observability for key user journeys with meaningful telemetry, alerts, and post-release verification.
- Drive practical testing strategy across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers for high-risk workflows.
- Support incident triage, production debugging, and root-cause follow-through for customer-impacting issues.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and platform peers to turn roadmap goals into executable technical slices.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, implementation guidance, and hands-on code collaboration.
To thrive in this role, you have
- 6+ years of software engineering experience with strong frontend and product-delivery depth.
- Strong production experience with React, TypeScript, and modern frontend application architecture.
- Experience delivering mobile product work with React Native
- A strong grasp of API integration patterns, error handling, and data-validation approaches in production systems.
- Demonstrated ability to own complex initiatives with limited oversight and strong cross-functional communication.
- A testing and reliability mindset, including practical experience with unit, integration, and functional test coverage.
- Experience operating in high-traffic or time-sensitive domains such as ticketing, e-commerce, payments, or event operations.
- The judgment to balance product velocity with quality, operational stability, and long-term maintainability.
How You Play
- Ownership over Participation- You take responsibility for achieving holistic outcomes, prioritize key objectives, and adapt quickly when situations require a different approach. You follow through even against the toughest challenges.
- Team over Stars- You are a bridge builder, establishing processes and relationships with teams outside your own. You work to rally around common goals, find win-win solutions, compromise when necessary, and help others succeed.
- Growth over Comfort- You are driven by a desire to grow and actively seek opportunities to expand your comfort zone, skills, and confidence. You embrace new challenges with curiosity, accepting discomfort and failure as opportunities to learn.
- Fairness over Popularity- You approach decisions with a scientist’s mindset, challenging your assumptions and remaining objective. You consider long-term impact rather than relying on short-term gains, proactively seek others’ perspectives, and manage emotions in decision-making.
