About Found

The self-employed workforce is a rapidly growing, resilient, and colorful 60 million Americans. But self-employment comes with its own set of challenges: navigating taxes, accounting, bookkeeping, and business banking are just a few. That’s where we come in.

Found is building tools that give self-employed people the security and peace of mind that has historically only been possible at big corporations. We’re a business bank account that automates taxes and expense tracking because we believe small business owners should spend more time doing what they love and less time on their business finances.

We’re looking for kind, resourceful, and passionate people to join us in building the safety net for self-employment.

About this role:

Our engineering team is responsible for taking products from ideation to being used by tens of thousands of users every week. We're responsible for everything from building the product to reliable and performant technical operations.

Our Risk Engineering team is responsible for fighting fraudulent use of Found and minimizing losses related to risk and bad actors in the system, while maintaining an excellent user experience across the core product and internal operations. We value moving fast, safely. The team has a large impact on how we grow our business and is responsible for external facing features, frameworks used by other product engineering teams and internal workflows.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is excited to work on a multi-faceted technical surface that drives business impact. The work we do directly ties to how Found makes and saves money. You'll be responsible for building and operating the systems that make systemic decisions on preventing fraud and creating checks and balances tailored to our different user personas. All this, while setting a high bar for simplicity, code quality and operations. If you have any questions please include them in your application.

Day to day, you will:

  • Collaborate with product engineering, risk operations, and other cross-functional teams to build and ship products.

  • Have ownership across a large breadth of surfaces - frontend systems, batch and stream data processing pipelines, and backend services.

  • Build, maintain, and iterate on code quickly and safely.

  • Mentor other engineers and contribute to the direction of the team.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • 5+ years of experience with backend and frontend frameworks and technologies.

  • Worked on sufficiently complex distributed systems that required balancing building in-house and integrating off-the shelf services.

  • Experience with relational databases and working with large-scale databases.

  • A passion for writing clean, simple, and self-documenting code.

You may also have:

  • Experience with data systems or machine learning.

  • Experience or interest in financial services, accounting, and/or self-employment.

  • Experience as a tech lead or an architect.

  • Experience driving initiatives across an organization or a company.

  • Experience building fault-tolerant systems.

  • Experience working on a financial risk team.

  • Experience working with Data Scientists.

  • Comfortable running your own data analysis in SQL / R / Python.
