Senior Software Engineer - Java

As a Backend Engineer, you'll be part of a collaborative, high-impact team working to create scalable, reliable systems behind some of the most intuitive tools on the web. Whether you've been in the industry for three years or twenty, if you're passionate about designing elegant solutions— we want to hear from you. This is a hybrid role working from our NYC office 3 days per week. You will report to the Engineering Team Manager.

We're hiring across several impactful R&D teams. Based on your experience and interests, you could join one of the following:

• Enterprise Product builds critical full-stack solutions that power our B2B Enterprise clients and empower our community of Pro users. In 2026, we're expanding our impact by aligning with the Websites objective to modernize legacy page types and integrate new features like the Acuity Scheduling websites experience.
• Identity and Access Management (IAM) is responsible for building and maintaining the foundational systems that ensure secure access across the platform for both customers and internal teams. This includes managing core functionalities like authentication (login), authorization (permissions), and session management.
• Communications Platform provides tools and services that make communication between our product teams and customers effortless at scale. Our vision is to create platforms that are easy to use and impactful. Because our work is used by most product teams, this is a high-visibility, high-impact role.

• Build scalable backend services in Java and related technologies.
• Write clean, efficient code that powers high-traffic, production-ready systems.
• Contribute to design decisions and architectural discussions.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers.
• Create features from concept through implementation to launch.

• 7+ years of professional experience in backend development using Java, Python, C, or similar languages
• Experience building large-scale, distributed systems
• Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and system design
• Comfortable working in collaborative environments where feedback is valued
• A degree in Computer Science — or equivalent industry experience that speaks for itself

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure in addition to base salary.
