About this role

As a Senior Solutions Architect on the Delivery Architecture team, you are the senior technical lead for customer engagements within Astronomer’s Professional Services team. You work directly with engineering leaders, architects, and executive stakeholders to design and deploy data orchestration platforms on Astro, define a clear path to production, and support delivery teams through complex implementations. This role combines solution architecture with hands-on technical work, including building prototypes to validate designs, diagnosing issues, and unblocking delivery.

What you get to do
  • Lead architecture reviews, workshops, and technical design sessions with engineering teams and executive stakeholders.

  • Design end-to-end platform architectures integrating Airflow with cloud infrastructure, compute frameworks, and data platforms.

  • Review delivery work to ensure high standards for scalability, observability, security, and operational excellence.

  • Diagnose and resolve issues, guide customers through deployments, migrations, and platform modernization.

  • Build reusable tools, frameworks, reference architectures, and best practices that improve delivery quality across the organization.

What you bring to the role
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or solution architecture

  • Airflow expertise authoring and deploying Dags to production, monitoring execution, and troubleshooting failures.

  • Experience tuning Airflow performance, refactoring Dag code, right-sizing infrastructure, and implementing data quality checks and alerts.

  • Proven track record of guiding customers through platform deployments, migrations, or technical transformations, managing scope, timelines, and stakeholder conflicts.

  • Strong background in designing cloud native data platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP, with familiarity in enterprise networking, security, and identity patterns.

  • Programming experience in Python and SQL.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Docker, and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, BigQuery, or Redshift.

  • Track record leading architecture discussions and driving technical decisions with engineering leaders and executive stakeholders.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills; can translate business requirements into scalable, production-ready architectures.

Travel

Customer engagements are primarily remote. Occasional travel may be required for conferences and team on-sites.

Why you should apply

Airflow is the backbone of data infrastructure at the world’s largest organizations, and Astronomer is the company behind it. You’ll work on real, complex architecture problems with customers who are pushing the platform to its limits.

The estimated salary for this role ranges from $190,000 - $250,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package. This range is merely an estimate; actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
