The Role

Full time Senior Staff Robotics Software Engineer at Piaggio Fast Forward in Boston, MA will deliver production ready software for robot navigation and tracking, which will allow PFF robots to effectively tackle the challenges of indoor and outdoor urban mobility. PFF’s first product, gita, is a mobile-carrier that tracks and follows a person while carrying approximately 45 lbs. PFF’s latest robot, PFF kilo, can follow a person and perform autonomous missions while carrying up to 300 lbs.

What You'll Do: 

Senior Staff Robotics Software Engineer's responsibilities will include:

  • Design and develop robust and efficient robotics software systems, incorporating advanced algorithms and machine learning, to help PFF robots navigate and localize indoors, outdoors,
  • and in urban terrains while avoiding obstacles.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define, design, test, and create autonomous robots.
  • Mentor junior staff in robotics algorithms and techniques.
  • Document and test code.
  • Continually research, discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies and approaches.
  • Effectively use data to prove/disprove functionality.
  • Clearly present and communicate plans and strategies for deliverables.
  • Autonomously task manage and deliver in a timely manner

What You'll Need: 

Requirements: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering or related technical field plus 60 months of experience as Software Engineer or similar engineering position. Experience must include the following, which may have been gained concurrently:

  • 2+ years of experience building robotics software systems;
  • 2+ years of experience applying machine learning to robotic systems;
  • 2+ years of experience with path planning, object tracking, or object detection;
  • 2+ years of experience using TensorRT;
  • Proficiency in C++, Python, Linux, and embedded systems, including Nvidia Jetson;
  • Experience using open source software such as OpenCV;
  • Familiarity with Deep Neural Network architecture, including CNNs;
  • Experience collaborating with other engineers on robotics or similar projects in a professional setting; and
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Alternate requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering or related technical field plus 84 months of experience as Software Engineer or similar engineering position. Experience must include the following, which may have been gained concurrently:

  • 2+ years of experience building robotics software systems;
  • 2+ years of experience applying machine learning to robotic systems;
  • 2+ years of experience with path planning, object tracking, or object detection;
  • 2+ years of experience using TensorRT;
  • Proficiency in C++, Python, Linux, and embedded systems, including Nvidia Jetson;
  • Experience using open source software such as OpenCV;
  • Familiarity with Deep Neural Network architecture, including CNNs;
  • Experience collaborating with other engineers on robotics or similar projects in a professional setting; and
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
