The Role

A Software/Hardware Staging Technician prepares, configures, and tests computer hardware and software in a simulated environment before deployment to end-users. Key duties include installing operating systems (Windows/macOS), loading applications, imaging devices, troubleshooting hardware, and managing inventory to ensure seamless, functional technology rollouts.

The Staging Tech acts as the gatekeeper of deployment, ensuring that servers, workstations, laptops, and peripheral devices work properly before they reach the user or production environment. They bridge the gap between procurement and functional IT support.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Hardware Assembly & Prep: Unboxing, assembling, and cabling computers, servers, and peripheral hardware.
  • Software Installation & Imaging: Loading operating systems, applying patches, and creating/deploying disk images to workstations.
  • System Testing & QA: Testing components and system functionality to ensure they meet specifications before shipping to customers or users.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing hardware failures and software compatibility issues during the setup process.
  • Inventory & Asset Management: Maintaining inventory of components, documenting serial numbers, and updating asset management systems.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Generating reports on PC performance and ensuring documentation is accurate for deployment.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of PC hardware components, troubleshooting techniques, and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Chrome OS).
  • Networking Basics: Familiarity with IP addressing, networking hardware, and LAN/WAN cabling.
  • Physical Dexterity: Capability to handle heavy computer equipment, including servers, monitors, and networking gear.
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong focus on quality assurance to ensure exact configurations.
  • Communication: Ability to work with both IT/Dev teams and non-technical staff.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Technologies or similar, or equivalent experience
  • Industry certifications like CompTIA A+ are highly preferred
  • 7+ years working as a Technical Services Engineer or similar

CJIS Clearance

A required part of the onboarding process for this role involves obtaining CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) clearance—a critical credential for safeguarding public safety data. At CentralSquare, we’ll stand with you every step of the way to secure this clearance should you be selected for hire. As part of the process, a comprehensive background check will be conducted, and please note that U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is generally required to obtain CJIS clearance.
