Senior Tools Engineer

Level is a learning technology company dedicated to helping students build real academic and life skills with confidence and joy. We combine proven curriculum principles with world class interactive design to make meaningful practice something students want to come back to, not something they struggle through.

We support what teachers, schools, and parents are already doing by increasing student engagement with high quality, standards aligned practice that reinforces classroom learning. That's why we're building:

For students: Rewarding and motivating learning experiences that meet students where they are to build real academic proficiency.

For educators: Tools that fit naturally into instruction and help students stay engaged while reducing teacher workload.

For parents: Activities that help your kid catch up or get ahead, build confidence, and minimize homework battles, whether learning at school or at home.

We are committed to helping every person maximize their potential and live a life of meaning. It's a difficult problem that requires brilliant people and tremendous effort over time.

We are seeking a Senior Tools Engineer for our growing engine and creative development teams. You'll create the invisible infrastructure that empowers our entire team—from intuitive editor extensions to sophisticated asset pipelines. Every tool you build multiplies the creativity and efficiency of dozens of developers, artists, and designers.

You'll own:

  • Custom engine editor tools and plugins

  • Asset import/export pipelines and workflow automation

  • Build systems and deployment infrastructure

  • Developer productivity tools and debugging utilities

  • Integration systems for external tools and services

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years developing tools for game development or interactive content teams

  • Strong C++ experience with modern game engine technology (Unreal, Unity, Godot, or proprietary engines)

  • Deep understanding of editor architecture, plugin systems, and extensibility patterns

  • Experience building asset pipelines and content management workflows

  • UX mindset for developer-facing tools—you understand that great tools are invisible

Bonus points:

  • Experience with multiple game engines and their tooling ecosystems

  • Scripting language proficiency (Python, C#, Lua, or similar)

  • CI/CD and DevOps background

  • DCC tool integration experience (Maya, Blender, Substance, etc.)

  • Version control systems and asset management at scale
