Job Summary

The Senior Underwriting Consultant plays a critical role within our Employee Benefits Underwriting Dept. to underwrite core Life and Disability products as well as new Supplemental Health product offerings to help OneAmerica Financial meet sales and profitability targets. This role works to analyze and price employer groups for Life, Disability and Supplemental Health products to meet divisional growth and profitability goals; supports the launch of our new Supplemental Health Products including Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity; acts as the subject matter expert (SME) for Supplemental Health products including creating and delivering training for the underwriting team; partners with Regional Supplemental Health Directors throughout the launch of new product offerings.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Triage new prospects to assess risk, plan design, data completeness, and pricing approach including any needed experience rating for Life, Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability.
• Advise Distribution on plan designs & pricing recommendation including options for benefit levels, comparison to current or competition, rating assumptions and risk analysis.
• Evaluate enrollment conditions and strategies to ensure successful implementation and satisfaction of any required product participation.
• Negotiate with sales reps on new business to balance competitiveness with risk and support progress toward divisional sales goals.
• Collaborate with Account Managers on renewals by applying the company’s renewal strategy considering plan designs, utilization, and pricing to maximize retention and ensure profitable performance.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with Distribution, Operations, Claims, Product, and Actuarial to ensure alignment and promote positive customer experience.
• Support special projects for leadership including process improvements, pricing updates, and new product features / offerings.
• Mentor teammates including reviewing work, sharing best practices, and helping to upskill the team.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of Life, Disability and Supplemental Health Underwriting
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and mentoring abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of EB hybrid products preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background

Salary Band: 06B

This selected candidate will be expected to work remote. The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in CA, IN or ME as business needs dictate or for team building and collaboration.

Consistent with applicable pay transparency laws, we disclose the compensation range for this position: $79,500 - $132.500 annually. Actual compensation will be determined by factors such as education, experience, geographical location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for an annual incentive program.
