Senior Visual Designer Job Description

Location: Based in Austin, TX

About Us:

Valkyrie is an applied science firm that builds industry-defining custom AI, Machine Learning and Knowledge Engineering solutions. Our interdisciplinary applied science teams support our clients end-to-end—from data normalization through model deployment—solving complex, high-impact problems across commercial and government sectors. Our work spans industries and institutions including SiriusXM, Activision, Chubb Insurance, and the U.S. Department of Defense. We operate at the intersection of deep technical rigor, operational excellence, and real-world impact.

Senior Visual Designer Position:

We're looking for a Visual Designer who brings ideas to life through exceptional craft and strategic thinking. As a Senior Visual Designer, you will design cohesive brand experiences that balance beauty with purpose. Working across branding, data visualization, and UX, you will translate complex scientific and technical ideas into clear, elegant visual systems that resonate with diverse audiences.

This role spans brand identity, marketing design, website and interface design, and sophisticated data visualization across both consulting engagements and internal AI products.

Senior Visual Designer Key Responsibilities

Brand & Visual Identity

  • Design and evolve scalable brand systems including logos, typography, color palettes, and visual guidelines across Valkyrie and sub-brands
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive brand guidelines that ensure consistency across teams and touchpoints
  • Create marketing materials, executive presentations, campaign assets, and digital collateral that embody our brand voice
  • Ensure brand consistency while enabling thoughtful creative expression across mediums

 Product & Interface Design

  • Design user interfaces that prioritize usability, accessibility, and aesthetic excellence
  • Contribute to and maintain design systems, component libraries, and pattern documentation
  • Prototype and communicate interaction concepts clearly to product and engineering teams
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists, engineers, and product leaders to translate technical capabilities into intuitive user experiences

 Data Visualization & Interactive Experiences

  • Design charts, dashboards, and interactive data experiences that are both accurate and engaging
  • Transform complex datasets into clear, compelling visual narratives
  • Partner with technical teams to ensure visualizations are scientifically sound and user-centered

Senior Visual Designer Qualifications:

We encourage candidates to apply even if they don’t have 100% of the below qualifications. We believe in a holistic approach when evaluating talent for our team and post new roles often, so even if this role isn’t quite right, we want to meet you!

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, Graphic Design or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in visual design, with demonstrated expertise across multiple domains (brand, UX, data visualization)
  • Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
  • A strong portfolio showcasing versatility across branding, brand design, data visualization, and UX/product design work
  • Strong foundation in typography, layout, color theory, and visual hierarchy
  • Experience building and maintaining scalable design systems
  • Ability to prototype and communicate interaction concepts effectively
  • Collaborative mindset with strong written and verbal communication skills

Like-to-have Qualifications:

  • Motion design or animation capabilities
  • Front-end knowledge (HTML/CSS)
  • Experience with data-heavy visualizations or AI/ML-driven products
  • Background working in fast-paced, iterative, startup or consulting environments
