About Us

Chess.com is one of the largest gaming sites in the world and the #1 platform for playing, learning, and enjoying chess.

We are a team of 600+ fully remote people in 60+ countries working hard to serve the global chess community. We are here to support 200M+ chess players worldwide with the best possible product, content, and tools to serve the community!

We are a tech company. A gaming company. A content company. And we do it all with passion and commitment to the game. Above all we prize our mission-driven, flat, life-celebrating, no-corporate culture, and we look forward to meeting you and learning more about what you can bring to the team.

About You

Conversations in sport, entertainment, and culture move at lightning speed. Chess.com has a massive social footprint, and we're looking to connect chess culture to those emerging conversations. We’re searching for a Social Growth Specialist who lives at the intersection of chess and what’s happening beyond the game.

Your mission is to be our "finger on the pulse." You won't just follow trends; you'll anticipate them. You'll be responsible for spotting key cultural moments as they unfold and creating timely, witty, and engaging content that inject chess into the global conversation, driving viral potential and owning those moments on behalf of Chess. This role is for someone who is terminally online, loves chess, and is ready to take creative risks with the backing of our Social Team.

What you'll do

  • Monitor social media, sports, and entertainment news to identify and capitalize on trending moments. You'll be expected to create and post content (memes, video replies, clever copy) that connects chess to the conversation as it’s unfolding.
  • Identify, analyze, and forecast emerging trends, platform features, and cultural shifts. You'll be the team's expert on "what's next" and how we can angle ourselves best as the next wave comes .
  • Act as a key voice of the brand. We regularly reach other games, celebrities, athletes, and top-tier user-generated content (UGC) with authentic, on-brand interaction  to  build relationships and deepen our connection to others creating amazing sh*t online .
  • The cultural calendar doesn't stick to a 9-to-5. You will be expected to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to cover major chess tournaments, partner events, and significant cultural moments (e.g., the Super Bowl, Oscars, major album drops, etc.). In exchange, your coverage during “working hours” may be different than the norm.
  • Success in this job is viewed from the biggest moments that land, not the risks that don’t. Pitch and execute bold, "outside-the-box" content ideas and social stunts. We're looking for a fresh perspective and a willingness to try new things to generate buzz.
  • Work closely with the Social Media and Partnerships teams to amplify key initiatives and ensure our growth strategy is aligned with broader company goals.

Qualifications

  • You have a genuine and demonstrable understanding of the game of chess, its community, its top players, and its unique culture.
  • You are "terminally online." You have an expert-level, intuitive understanding of internet culture, memes, and current events across sports, entertainment, gaming, and music. You "get the joke" before anyone else.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience managing and growing social media accounts (can be high-growth personal accounts or professional brand accounts). You have a native understanding of TikTok, X (Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube.
  • You are fast. You can quickly create compelling, platform-native content (e.g., quick video edits in CapCut, simple graphic design in Canva, or just razor-sharp copy).
  • You're naturally clever and know how to craft a brand voice that is engaging, authentic, and resonates with a modern audience.
  • You don't wait to be told what to do. You're comfortable with the non-traditional schedule required to chase a viral moment.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • You've successfully created viral content in the past.
  • You have video/image editing skills (Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, CapCut, Canva).
  • You have an existing social media presence that demonstrates your cultural awareness.
P.S: It’s totally fine if that ^ previous work is not chess related. We’re looking for your ability to connect with conversations as much as we are for your voice.

About the Opportunity

  • This is a full-time opportunity
  • We are 100% remote (work from anywhere!)
  • Preferred timezones for this role are the Americas/Canada
