About The Role:

As an iOS Engineer at AllTrails, you’ll be an architect of the bridge between the digital world and the great outdoors. You won’t just be writing code; you’ll be building the tools that help millions of people find their way back home after a day on the trail.

This is an early-career role designed for an iOS Engineer who has moved past the basics and is ready to sharpen their skills in a large-scale production environment. Whether you are a recent graduate or have a few years of professional experience under your belt, you’ll focus on mastering our native apps under the mentorship of senior staff. Your primary goals will be contributing clean, scalable code, adopting complex architectural patterns, and expanding your expertise within a modern mobile stack.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Design and build features in the AllTrails iOS app that power our on-trail navigation experience
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners from design and product management
  • Identify and squash bugs
  • Deliver performant, reliable, scalable and secure code
  • Monitor performance and addressing scaling issues

Requirements:

  • Professional Foundation: You have a solid grasp of Swift and are eager to work in a modern iOS environment (experience with Objective-C is a plus)
  • Fundamental Concepts: Familiarity with RESTful APIs and basic knowledge of data persistence (like CoreData or SQLite)
  • The "Early-Career" Sweet Spot: You likely have 1–3 years of professional experience or several high-quality shipped projects under your belt
  • Growth Mindset: You possess deep curiosity, humility, and a desire to be mentored by world-class senior engineers
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

Bonus Points:

  • Mapping/GIS experience
  • Experience developing for Apple Watch
  • Experience with ARKit
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new technology and processes
  • AI Native: You naturally incorporate AI tools to enhance your work. You’re comfortable writing prompts, evaluating AI outputs, and enjoy experimenting with new ways to boost creativity, productivity, and decision-making

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive and equitable compensation, including ownership through equity and performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage to support your physical and mental well-being.
  • Unlimited PTO in addition to company holidays.
  • Dedicated time once a month to test and improve our product through company-wide no-meeting days.
  • Fully paid parental leave to birthing and non-birthing parents.
  • 401k Match & access to financial wellness resources through Origin.
  • Remote work stipend to help you design a comfortable and productive home office.
  • Annual learning stipend to invest in your long-term professional growth and skills.
  • Exclusive discounts on our subscriptions and merchandise for you and your friends & family.
  • An authentic investment in you as a human being and a professional—we value your identity as much as your output.
  •

Nature celebrates you just the way you are and so do we! At AllTrails we’re passionate about nurturing an inclusive workplace that values diversity. It’s no secret that companies that are diverse in background, age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity, and perspective are proven to be more successful. We’re focused on creating an environment where everyone can do their best work and thrive.

Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. AllTrails will consider all qualified applicants, including those with arrest and conviction records, in a manner consistent with all applicable laws, including the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, and the New York City Fair Chance Act.
