Description

Matrix is seeking a Solutions Engineer to help design, implement, and support a next‑generation, governed knowledge infrastructure for complex legacy systems. This role sits at the intersection of systems analysis, customer engineering, and applied AI, supporting large, regulated enterprises—particularly in banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI).

You will work with opaque, decades‑old codebases (e.g., mainframe and legacy languages) and help transform them into structured, queryable knowledge layers that both humans and AI systems can reason over reliably and safely.

This role is well‑suited for individuals who thrive in ambiguity, enjoy complex problem‑solving, and are comfortable operating as a trusted technical advisor to senior enterprise stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex, legacy system environments and enterprise software implementations
  • Support customer onboarding, implementation, and post‑deployment troubleshooting
  • Diagnose issues methodically, identify root causes, and document findings clearly
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and customer teams to resolve issues and improve system reliability
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non‑technical stakeholders
  • Apply large language models (LLMs) and prompt‑engineering techniques to solve real‑world system and knowledge problems
  • Support installations and environments by navigating logs, services, and runbooks as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Strong ability to operate in ambiguous, ill‑defined problem spaces
  • Proven skill in breaking complex systems into manageable components
  • Root‑cause focused mindset rather than symptom‑based troubleshooting
  • Comfortable learning as you go and proactively finding answers
  • Problem‑Solving & Analytical Skills

Customer & Systems Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in customer‑facing technical roles (e.g., Solutions Engineering, Implementation Consulting, L2/L3 Support, Systems Integration)
  • Experience with complex B2B enterprise software environments
  • Ability to reproduce issues, document bugs clearly, and communicate with engineering teams
  • Ability to read and understand code (Python, JavaScript, SQL, or similar)

Preferred:

  • Exposure to legacy or mainframe technologies (COBOL, PL/I, JCL)
  • Familiarity with graph databases or query languages (e.g., Neo4j, Cypher)

AI & Prompt Engineering

  • Hands‑on experience with multiple LLM platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini)
  • Strong understanding of prompt design techniques (few‑shot, chain‑of‑thought, structured outputs, multi‑step reasoning)
  • Ability to select and adapt models based on task requirements
  • Experience solving non‑trivial, real‑world problems using LLMs
  • Interest or experience in agentic workflows, tool‑calling, and evaluation loops
  • Understanding of context limits, token usage, grounding, and hallucination risks

Client & Communication Skills

  • Professional presence suitable for senior enterprise and BFSI stakeholders
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication
  • Calm and effective under pressure, including production‑level issues
  • Ability to balance patience as an educator with authority as a technical expert

Technical Fluency

  • Comfortable working in Linux command‑line environments
  • Foundational knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
  • Basic networking understanding (ports, DNS, TLS, firewalls, proxies)
  • Familiarity navigating at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Preferred:

  • Experience working at a B2B technology vendor or consulting firm
  • Experience with regulated enterprise environments and review cycles
  • Demonstrable portfolio related to AI, prompt engineering, or agent systems
