Support existing application ecosystem and design to scale growing platforms.
The Impact:
As a Worksite Solutions Architect, you will collaborate with business stakeholders, enterprise architecture, and data and customer experience teams to analyze, define, and implement the technical solution architecture in support of the Worksite business vision. We need your leadership, agility, strong communication skills, and passion for learning.
  • Architecture Design: Lead the design of scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions tailored to Worksite business needs, ensuring alignment with business goals and enterprise standards.
  • Strategic Planning: Partner with Worksite leaders to translate business objectives into technology capabilities and long-term architectural roadmaps.
  • Platform Expertise: Provide architectural oversight and technical leadership for Worksite applications
  • Integration Leadership: Define integration strategies for connecting Worksite systems with vendor platforms and other systems
  • Data Architecture: Collaborate with data teams to ensure robust data models, governance, lineage, and availability for financial and actuarial analysis.
  • Risk & Compliance: Ensure all solutions meet regulatory, actuarial, and internal audit requirements.
  • Innovation & Best Practices: Stay ahead of emerging trends in financial analytics, machine learning in actuarial science, and cloud-native finance platforms.
  • Mentoring & Leadership: Guide and mentor junior architects, solution designers, and developers; lead cross-functional technical working groups

The Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or higher in related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years in technology roles, with at least 8+ years in solution architecture and hands on experience in the following:
    • Design and development across frontend, backend, data, and integration layers, delivering complex, production-grade systems.
    • Design and implement scalable, distributed solutions using modern languages and frameworks such as Java, Node.js, Python, Spring Boot, JavaScript, and API-driven architectures.
    • Microservices and componentized architectures, applying containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-native services to build cloud-first, loosely coupled systems.
    • Event-driven and integration architectures, including event streaming (Kafka), synchronous and asynchronous communication patterns, and service contracts.
    • Multiple integration styles and data formats, including REST, SOAP, JSON, Avro, and XML, with a clear understanding of trade-offs.
    • AWS application architecture experience, designing, building, and deploying cloud-native solutions using services such as IAM, ALB/ELB, Lambda, Step Functions, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, Aurora, and CloudWatch.
    • Relational and NoSQL data stores, including DynamoDB and document databases such as MongoDB, and understanding of data access patterns at scale.

The Ideal Qualifications
  • Lead end-to-end architecture for large-scale, multi-tenant SaaS platforms supporting multiple product lines and shared enterprise capabilities across the Worksite Technology stack.
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders, Enterprise Architecture, internal technology organizations and external vendors to translate strategic objectives into platform architecture and drive cross-organizational alignment.
  • Identify and deliver end-to-end technical solutions based on business needs leveraging microservices-based architecture, incorporating APIs and business events to decouple digital and backend services and enable independent evolution.
  • Define future-state technology vision and actionable context-specific roadmaps (baseline → target → transition), aligned to enterprise standards, platform strategy, and delivery sequencing.
  • Architect for critical non-functional requirements including security, high availability, scalability, resilience, extensibility, maintainability, and performance engineering.
  • Provide hands-on AWS architectural leadership, establishing cloud-native patterns, automation/IaC, and secure governance across environments and accounts.
  • Establish full-stack observability and operational excellence across distributed services.
  • Ensure architectural solutions are designed as reusable building blocks (APIs/microservices/platform capabilities) that compose flexible solutions and deliver excellent user and developer experience.
  • Continuously assess current-state technology, proactively identify gaps/overlaps, and recommend rationalization and investment opportunities; lead technology evaluations and selections when needed.
  • Apply strong insurance industry and platform domain understanding to make informed decisions on product usage, vendor capabilities, and long-term investment strategy at MassMutual.
  • Exposure to legacy and back-office systems, including batch-oriented processing, with experience modernizing or integrating them into cloud-based architectures.
  • Solid understanding of software design patterns and architectural modeling, using appropriate tools and techniques to communicate and validate design decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead architecture and system design discussions, facilitate design reviews, and influence technical decisions across teams.
  • Strong collaboration skills, working effectively with globally distributed teams, external vendors, and third-party partners.
  • Proven technical leadership and mentorship, guiding engineers and raising the overall bar for architecture, code quality, and operational excellence.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, applying both Agile and traditional SDLC methodologies as appropriate.
  • Some knowledge and experience of Artificial Intelligence and usage within a business domain.
  • Master's degree in computer science or higher in related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
