The Senior Database Administrator - Cloud is responsible for the architecture, performance, reliability, and security of modern, cloud‑native database platforms supporting enterprise and customer‑facing applications. This role emphasizes scalable, automated, and resilient data platforms, with a strong preference for AWS‑based services. This role closely with application, platform, and data engineering teams to design and operate database solutions that align with cloud best practices and business growth.

1. Cloud‑Native Database Architecture & Operations
- Design, deploy, and operate cloud‑native database solutions using managed services (e.g., Amazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, and PostgreSQL‑compatible platforms).
- Lead the modernization of legacy and on‑premises databases to cloud‑based and hybrid architectures.
- Apply cloud best practices for scalability, high availability, fault tolerance, and cost optimization.
- Partner with cloud platform and DevOps teams to integrate databases into broader cloud architectures.
- Track changes across environments and implement source control and versioning procedures.
- Provide expertise in schema designs, data modeling and domain driven architecture.
- Enable real-time event driven data streaming and manage Apache Kafka and API based ingestion.
2. Performance, Reliability & Scalability
- Serve as the subject‑matter expert for database performance tuning in distributed and cloud environments.
- Analyze and optimize queries, indexing strategies, and database configurations to support high‑throughput workloads.
- Design and manage backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies across disparate logical and geographical zones.
- Proactively monitor database health, capacity, and performance using cloud‑native monitoring and observability tools.
- Facilitate change data capture (CDC) and real-time replication technologies
3. Automation & Infrastructure as Code
- Automate provisioning, configuration, patching, and operational tasks using scripting and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Python, PowerShell).
- Enable CI/CD patterns for database changes, schema migrations, and version control.
- Reduce operational toil through automation and self‑service capabilities for engineering teams.
4. Security, Governance & Compliance
- Implement and enforce security best practices, including encryption at rest and in transit, identity and access management, and least‑privilege access models.
- Partner with security teams to meet regulatory, audit, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability across all environments.
- Establish and enforce data governance, master data management, metadata, observability, masking and compliance.
5. Collaboration & Enablement
- Work closely with application development, data engineering, analytics, and infrastructure teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
- Provide architectural guidance and hands‑on support to development teams for data modeling and access patterns.
- Mentor junior DBAs and engineers, promoting modern cloud and DevOps practices.
6. Reporting, Analytics & Data Integrity
- Support operational reporting and analytics platforms by ensuring reliable, well‑modeled, and performant data sources.
- Troubleshoot data integrity issues and partner with business stakeholders to resolve root causes.
- Contribute to data platform standards and best practices.
7. Project & Change Management
- Participate in project planning, technical design, implementation, testing, and release activities.
- Coordinate database changes with application releases and infrastructure updates.
- Support data‑driven back‑office and customer‑facing systems.

Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in information systems, computer science, business management or related field; or equivalent work experience and knowledge.
Experience:
- 8–10+ years of experience in database engineering or administration roles.
- Strong experience with cloud‑native database technologies, with AWS expertise strongly preferred.
- Hands‑on experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, DynamoDB, or similar platforms.
- Experience migrating and modernizing on‑premises databases to the cloud.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Deep understanding of cloud architecture patterns, distributed systems, and managed database services.
- Proficiency with automation, scripting, and Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps operating models.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and performance‑tuning skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, Database Specialty).
- Experience with containerized or serverless data workloads.
- Knowledge of analytics and reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI or cloud‑native equivalents).
- Experience supporting data platforms in regulated or high‑availability environments.
Wage: $141,000 - $164,000 annually; actual wage is based upon education and experience.
