Senior Director, Analyst - Advising Product Marketing Leaders in Tech Companies   
(Remote – US or Canada) 

About the role: 

Gartner Analysts are industry thought leaders who create must-have research, market predictions and best practices for a broad range of world-leading organizations. A Senior Director serves as a leader within Gartner’s Research and Advisory sector, establishing oneself as a credible voice within their designated market at local, regional, and global levels. Utilizing exceptional research and analytical skills, a Senior Director plays a significant role in producing pragmatic and provocative research which Gartner clients consume and apply to propel their business toward key objectives. They are a trusted source of advice for clients, reinforcing Gartner’s value every day by engaging them via in-person meetings, virtual meetings, sales support visits and Gartner conferences to discuss complex client challenges and offer appropriate recommendations. 

This Analyst sits within Gartner’s Marketing & Communications Tech Marketing practice and will guide Product Marketing Leaders and their teams in transforming their functions for business impact.  As disruptive forces inside and outside the enterprise are resetting the expectations and objectives of B2B Tech Marketing Leaders, this role will focus on product marketing leadership and strategy (including org, talent, measurement) and the AI / agentic AI transformation of product marketing and go-to-market.  

Successful candidates will leverage a deep understanding of product marketing leader sensibilities to advise product marketing leaders in enterprise or upper midsize companies on: 

Product Marketing Leadership 

  • Develop strategic marketing plans that align product marketing strategies, objectives, activities and resources to the enterprise vision, goals and strategic outcomes 

  • Prove and articulate the value of product marketing to the enterprise to increase understanding of product marketing’s role, show its impact to CMO/enterprise priorities, and secure budget and resources 

  • Evolve the product marketing function by integrating AI, agentic AI and automation to enhance team effectiveness, streamline workflows, and enable data-driven decision making 

  • Lead through complex business dynamics such as mergers and acquisitions, organizational restructuring, and product portfolio rationalization 

Go-to-Market Strategy and Execution 

  • Define the role of product marketing in go-to-market and establish cross-functional collaboration with peers to deliver business growth goals and increase effectiveness and agility 

  • Evolve go-to-market strategy and execution to plan for and implement emerging AI tech, tools and use cases 

  • Build and execute go-to-market marketing strategies that are resilient to change and deliver value, specifically demonstrating marketing impact on and accountability for business growth 

  • Lead teams responsible for go-to-market strategy and execution, including: 

  • Market/competitive intelligence, including research and analysis on market trends, competitor strategies, and evolving buyer behaviors  

  • Segmentation, buyer personas and vertical marketing strategy 

  • Product/portfolio positioning, messaging, and storytelling 

  • Product launch planning and execution, minimizing risk and maximizing market impact 

  • Sales and buyer enablement 

  • Customer advocacy 

  • Navigate complex challenges such as product portfolio rationalization, market entry into new regions, product re-positioning, etc. 

What you will do:  

  • Deliver high-quality actionable advice to an executive client audience through a variety of media. 

  • Write evidence-based content that is clear and actionable. 

  • Create and deliver presentations for webinars and other client-facing Gartner events. 

  • Deliver outstanding sales and service support to retain and grow the Gartner business. 

  • Build credibility as an industry expert to represent Gartner research, methodology and strategy. 

  • Actively participate in innovation, ideation, and research discussions and collaborate effectively with peers in our research community. 

  • Be a mentor and a coach by supporting more junior team members 

What you will need:  

  • Experience as a former Product Marketing Leader for a software or tech services company, either corporate or for large business unit 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Graduate degree preferred 

  • 12+ years of relevant product marketing and/or B2B tech marketing experience 

  • An informed understanding of the challenges facing Product Marketing Leaders within the enterprise and drivers of business impact 

  • Extensive experience leading development and execution of product marketing strategies, including go-to-market activities that drive enterprise growth 

  • Experience in native and embedded AI technologies used across product marketing activities 

  • Demonstrated executive presence; can immediately establish credibility with executives and additional stakeholders 

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality deliverables 

  • Strong written and verbal proficiency, analytical and presentation skills; ability to engage clients and respond effectively to questions  

  • Proficient in analyzing and synthesizing data; can effectively apply patterns and frameworks while drawing and defending conclusions to client challenges 

  • Strong communicator who is able to explain complex concepts concisely and simply  

  • Subject matter expert comfortable presenting at large and small-scale speaking engagements  

  • Ability to work independently, while also being intrinsically motivated to collaborate across teams and support the workflow of others, in a multicultural global team 

  • Ability to represent Gartner's research methodology and strategies effectively at all levels

Gartner believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is 152,000 USD - 190,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan.
