Summary:

In this role, the Senior Director, Project Management will lead a team of project managers responsible for delivering complex consulting and enterprise-wide client engagements. This leader establishes the project-management strategy, governance, methodologies, and performance standards needed to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with contractual commitments and client expectations.

Responsibilities:

Project Management Leadership and Governance

  • Establish and execute the project-management strategy, operating model, governance structure, and performance standards for assigned consulting engagements.

  • Lead oversight of complex, cross-functional projects and programs from initiation through implementation, measurement, and closeout.

  • Maintain and continuously improve project-management methodologies, tools, templates, reporting practices, and documentation standards.

  • Champion consistent use of project-management best practices across consulting and client-delivery teams.

  • Ensure projects maintain appropriate executive visibility, governance, accountability, and decision-making structures.

  • Influence project-management policies and lead process improvements that strengthen delivery quality, efficiency, and scalability.

Client and Stakeholder Leadership

  • Partner with client executives to establish project strategy, priorities, expectations, governance, and measures of success.

  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders and serve as a senior point of contact for project delivery matters.

  • Communicate project status, accomplishments, risks, dependencies, financial performance, and required decisions clearly and proactively.

  • Facilitate alignment among client leaders, engagement teams, subject-matter experts, and other stakeholders.

  • Anticipate stakeholder concerns and resolve complex issues or escalations that could affect project outcomes or client satisfaction.

Financial and Operational Oversight

  • Monitor project budgets, contracted hours, savings commitments, timelines, resource requirements, and travel expenses.

  • Partner with account and engagement leadership to oversee project financials, milestones, risks, dependencies, and benefits realization.

  • Establish quantitative and qualitative measures of project performance, including value delivered, outcomes, delivery velocity, client satisfaction, and team effectiveness.

  • Identify financial and operational improvement opportunities and ensure appropriate tracking, validation, reporting, and auditing of results.

  • Assess project portfolios to identify emerging risks, resource constraints, competing priorities, and opportunities to improve performance.

Team and Resource Leadership

  • Recruit, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of project-management professionals.

  • Provide day-to-day direction, performance feedback, mentoring, professional development, and escalation support to direct and indirect team members.

  • Establish clear expectations and delegate responsibilities based on project needs, individual capabilities, and development opportunities.

  • Manage internal and external resources to ensure projects have the appropriate staffing levels, capabilities, and subject-matter expertise.

  • Build succession plans and strengthen the project-management leadership pipeline.

  • Create an inclusive, collaborative environment that encourages accountability, innovation, open communication, and recognition of individual and team contributions.

Organizational Effectiveness and Continuous Improvement

  • Promote organizational learning by applying lessons learned, project retrospectives, performance data, and client feedback to future engagements.

  • Lead change-management activities that improve adoption of project-management processes, tools, and software.

  • Provide thought leadership and technical expertise related to project delivery, program management, governance, and performance improvement.

  • Develop executive-level presentations, project plans, financial reports, dashboards, and internal reporting for client and organizational leadership.

  • Collaborate across Vizient to strengthen project delivery capabilities and drive consistent, repeatable client outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, project management, or a related field preferred.

  • 7 or more years of progressive project or program management experience, including responsibility for complex, cross-functional initiatives.

  • 5 or more years of people-leadership experience, including responsibility for developing project managers and managing team performance.

  • Demonstrated experience establishing project governance, managing budgets and resources, mitigating risk, and delivering projects against contractual commitments.

  • Strong executive communication, presentation, facilitation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategic objectives into actionable project plans, performance measures, and measurable outcomes.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Program Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, or comparable certification desired.

  • Experience leading projects within hospitals, health systems, healthcare performance improvement, supply chain, or another related technical field preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project or comparable project and portfolio management platforms, resource-planning systems, and executive reporting tools.

  • Ability and willingness to travel based on client and business needs.

Estimated Hiring Range:

At Vizient, we consider skills, experience, and organizational needs in our compensation approach. Geographic factors may adjust the range estimate and hires typically fall below the top range. Compensation decisions are tailored to individual circumstances. The current salary range for this role is $135,200.00 to $236,600.00.
