Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex communication projects and campaigns, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Develop and execute advanced communication strategies to enhance brand visibility and reputation.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify communication opportunities and challenges.
  • Implement best practices for communication management and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards in all communication efforts.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to the communications team.

Expected Qualifications:

  • 8+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Manager of Merchant Communications to support communications regarding PayPal’s approach and awareness with around agentic commerce, including engagement with the developer community. In this role, you will partner closely with stakeholders focused on our agentic strategy, including external partners and developers. To drive impact and champion our Agentic approach with merchants, consumers, developers, investors and employees, you will identify impactful ways to communicate PayPal’s strategic vision how merchants can benefit from agentic commerce.

This includes crafting narratives that resonate with merchants and developers and result in heightened engagement and visibility with their community. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of external communication skills, business acumen, and a deep understanding of and how to translate complex financial and technical concepts into compelling narratives. The desired candidate fosters collaboration in everything they do and serves as a convener of various stakeholders and teams together to achieve a common goal.  Previous experience working with technology innovators, including AI companies engaged with the developer community is highly desirable.

Job Description

As part of the Corporate Affairs organization, PayPal’s Merchant Communications team is responsible for sharing the company’s Merchant story and business performance to key stakeholders — including employees, customers, media, industry influencers, developers and investors. We work cross-functionally with teams such as Employee Communications, Finance, Government Relations, and Legal to build programs that support our mission, communicate our strategy, and strengthen PayPal’s reputation with merchants.

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Manager of Merchant communications to support our Agentic Commerce strategy and lead Developer Communications to increase awareness and sustain relationships with key audiences.  A key strategic priority this role will support will be to pioneer the firm’s Agentic Commerce strategy. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Merchant and Technology Communications teams to elevate PayPal’s visibility among developers, key partners, merchants and other target audiences that help drive awareness, consideration and business impact through thoughtful storytelling.

This role will report to the Sr. Director, Head of Merchant Communications within the Corporate Affairs team.

Responsibilities:

External Storytelling:

  • Lead external communication strategies that showcase the company's developer strategy to media, developers, merchants, industry influencers, and the broader public

  • Coordinate thought leadership initiatives to promote PayPal’s tools, innovation, and talent by positioning PayPal within key trends tied to Agentic Commerce, industry insights, and market dynamics

  • Lead engagement with Developer Relations team to identify key events, speaking opportunities and launches targeting developers.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to create compelling thought leadership content, including articles, blog posts, and sponsored content

  • Cultivate brand advocates within the organization and empower them to share PayPal’s innovation story through various channels

  • Work closely with external agencies and partners to scale storytelling efforts, manage deliverables, and ensure message consistency across channels

  • Collaborate with the larger team to establish measurement frameworks to evaluate the impact of external communications and optimize future initiatives based on performance data and industry benchmarks

  • Monitor and help the team address potential issues that arise

Internal Communications:

  • Support the development and execution of internal communication strategies that keep employees informed, engaged, and aligned with the organization's vision and business priorities

  • Coordinate and optimize internal platforms and communication channels to ensure transparency, foster collaboration, and drive effective information flow about our developer engagements throughout the organization.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in developer/AI, technology, and B2B/merchant communications

  • Previous experience engaging with and driving communications to the developer community is preferred

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with ability to convey complex financial concepts to various audiences

  • Experience working with executives and in collaborative environments

  • Demonstrated history of serving as a convener and bringing together stakeholders across teams to achieve a common goal

  • Track record of supporting successful thought leadership and external storytelling campaigns

  • Familiarity with current communications trends and a passion for businesses through innovative approaches

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

Primary Location | Pay Range:

San Jose, California | ($129,500.00 - $191,950.00 Annually)

Additional Location(s) | Pay Range:

Chicago, Illinois | ($117,500.00 - $174,350.00 Annually) Austin, Texas | ($117,500.00 - $174,350.00 Annually) Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
