Summary

The Sr. Mortgage Consultant is responsible for generating residential mortgage loan volume by proactively sourcing and developing external business relationships within the real estate and local communities.  This role serves as a primary external representative of mortgage loans, and guiding members through the home financing process from application to closing.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Proactively source, cultivate, and develop residential mortgage loan business from a network of external referral sources, including but not limited to, real estate agents, builders, developers, financial planners, and personal spheres of influence.
  • Execute outbound sales strategies, conduct face-to-face partner meetings, and participate in local industry and community events to drive loan volume.
  • Interview prospective borrowers to analyze financial status, credit history, and long-term financial goals.
  • Recommend appropriate credit union mortgage loan products to enable borrowers to make an informed decision tailored to meet their specific needs.
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with borrowers, real estate partners, and internal processing/underwriting teams throughout the loan lifecycle.
  • Ensure a seamless member experience by managing expectations and resolving issues proactively from pre-approval to closing.
  • Identify opportunities to expand borrower relationships by proactively referring them to appropriate internal branch partners for financial services (e.g. retail banking, investments, or insurance).
  • Monitor local real estate market conditions, competitor offerings, and economic trends to identify growth opportunities.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of federal, state, and institutional lending regulations, including RESPA, TRID, and fair lending laws.
  • Achieve or exceed monthly and annual production goals established for origination volume, pull through ratios, and member satisfaction scores.

Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One (1) – Three (3) years of demonstrated success in outside mortgage sales or loan origination.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Established network of local real estate professionals and referral sources.
  • Exceptional communication, public speaking, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of self-motivation with the ability to manage an independent, mobile schedule effectively.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Mortgage Loan Origination Systems, automated underwriting systems, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools.
  • Extensive knowledge of regulations governing real estate, including Regulations B, C, X, Z, and the Fair Housing Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to be bonded.
  • Must have or be able to obtain NMLS registration.
