We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join our Integrations Platform team. Our team owns the platform’s “edge” – our software agent that runs on customer machines and implements our technology powering their end-to-end workflows by integrating and collaborating with their engineering tools.
Here at Istari, engineers work across the process and across the stack. Anyone can propose a feature, and engineers implementing a feature work with partners throughout the organization to take that feature from inception to customer production systems and usage. You'll work and coordinate with other teams across the full stack — deployment infrastructure to server code to SDKs to running agents and modules in the wild across a variety of operating systems and deployment targets.
Our team produces tools for hardware engineers to drive their work and for software engineers to provide additional automation to support that work. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone who has a passion for both customer delight and API design. You’ll help us evolve the future of digital engineering by providing the tools our customers need to rapidly iterate as they build new technologies.
In short – this is a high-autonomy role – we have guardrails you’ll need to respect, but you’ll have a lot of latitude within those guardrails to get things done and see them used right away.
Core Responsibilities
Lead the design and delivery of major features and projects within the Integrations Platform — SDKs, agents, job pipelines, and related services — carrying them from inception through customer production.
Drive the evolution of the integration authoring experience, including AI-enabled workflows that scale how integrations are built and maintained.
Champion reliability, scalability, and observability practices across the agent ecosystem and integrations lifecycle, and hold the features you build to that bar.
Build developer tooling, packages, and libraries that reduce friction and accelerate integration development and adoption.
Partner with product, platform, and customer success teams to translate customer needs into concrete technical designs for the features and projects you lead.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship — raise the engineering bar through design reviews, architecture input, and hands-on guidance.
Lead cross-functional initiatives spanning workflow orchestration, service scaling, and job orchestration.
Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies and frameworks for integration authoring, automation, and platform capabilities.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant time designing and scaling distributed systems, developer platforms, or integrations frameworks.
Demonstrated experience owning the architecture of significant features or subsystems end-to-end — you've made the tradeoffs and lived with the consequences.
Strong coding ability across backend services, SDKs, developer tooling, and agent-based systems. Specific language experience isn't crucial — our stack is primarily Python, with a growing share in Go, key components in Java and C#, and a TypeScript/React front end.
Experience working on edge platforms — Windows especially, plus Linux (desktop and server) and macOS — including low-level platform and administrative considerations (permissions, services/daemons, packaging, filesystem quirks) unique to each OS.
Experience working with multiple orchestration models for distributed systems (e.g., DAG-based schedulers, event-driven pipelines, actor systems, queue-based task workers) would be ideal.
Hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted development or agentic workflow systems.
Strong grounding in system reliability, security, and performance optimization for developer-facing platforms.
A track record of technical leadership and mentorship — you've grown engineers and shaped practices within your team, not just shipped code.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across the teams you work with.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Must be a US citizen or permanent resident living within the United States.
The list below describes a candidate who would be an ideal match on every dimension. If your background matches only some of these — not all — we'd still encourage you to apply if you think you can discharge the core responsibilities.
About Istari Digital
We've built a team of what we call Wizards -- people who bring depth in their domain and range across others, who are collaborative without being deferential, and who genuinely care about what we're building. We celebrate individual contributions, give feedback early and often, and argue about ideas so we can execute together.
There's no room here for hierarchy for its own sake, or for busywork that doesn't move the mission. We are outcomes-driven, and we hold each other to a high standard — with genuine respect for each person's expertise and wellbeing.
Focus is rewarded. Finish is remembered.
