The Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship (OVPRS) has an exciting job opportunity for a Sr. Project Manager, Research Strategic Operations to work at the University of Miami.

CORE JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                    

The Sr. Project Manager, Research Strategic Operations (RSO) directs the day-to-day activities in the RSO of the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship (OVPRS) to deliver projects that span across one or more units, in furtherance of institutional goals and objectives, providing guidance on policies and processes, overseeing project management staff, and collaborating with other department leaders to develop projects and programs and ensure successful and on-time project delivery. Moreover, the incumbent manages resources, schedules, and financials for assigned projects.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborates with other department leaders to define, prioritize, and develop projects.

  • Drives project management, including setting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and assigning team members to various deliverables. Oversees the development of the project and ensuring that team members are carrying out their tasks efficiently while upholding the company's standards.

  • Analyzes financial data, including project budgets, risks, and resource allocation.

  • Drafts new and improving existing project management office policies and processes. Continuously evaluates projects to ensure they are meeting company standards, adhering to budgets, and meeting deadlines.

  • Accurately documents the project's creation, development, and execution as well as documenting the project's scope, budget, and justification.

  • Provides coaching, training and support to enhance the department’s capability, and improves staff professional performance and project results. Monitors staff performance and completes performance reviews.

  • Ensures adherence to department’s annual budget, in accordance with University guidelines and policies. 

  • Manages support systems to assure availability of cost-effective supplies, equipment and management information.

  • Supports the process improvement project portfolio, (including process-improvement projects and process improvement capability building projects) so that process improvement delivers immediate benefits, while creating long term process management capabilities and coordinates process improvement efforts to eliminate duplicate projects and negative interactions.

  • Manages interdependencies and coordination across projects to ensure that information relating to project deliverables, risks and issues and effectively communicated between stakeholders in and outside of the department and across the institution.

  • Participates in the strategic defining of process goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and ensures key performance indicators are monitored and evaluated.

  • Establishes and assesses existing internal and external controls and approval processes and makes recommendations to improve program operations.

  • Works with leadership and peers to develop dashboards with metrics to drive operational efficiencies and cost reductions while enhancing staff satisfaction and customer service. 

  • Maintains industry knowledge on project management excellence and innovation.

  • Ensures oversight and management of strategic initiatives for OVPRS.

  • Drives feasibility studies and vendor selections.

  • Manages ongoing quality control and participates in quality issue resolution.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.  Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.

Certification and Licensing:

Current standing Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant research project management experience required. Appropriate combination of experience and/or certifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Skill in collecting, organizing and analyzing data.
