About This Role:

Senior / Senior II DevOps Engineer — Environment Platform

About the Role

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to help scale and improve our environment creation and management platform.

Today, we operate multiple long-lived environments backed by AWS EC2, Kubernetes, GitOps (Argo CD), and Terraform-based infrastructure. As our platform has grown, environment provisioning and configuration management have become a major source of operational backlog and toil. Modernizing the R&D Platform using Kubernetes and various CNCF (or CNCF-type) projects are a requirement. Occasional weekend work may be required, as will late deployments.

This role is focused on:

  • Reducing environment-related backlog
  • Standardizing how environments are created and managed
  • Improving and untangling legacy Terraform + embedded application configuration
  • Driving automation and platform improvements that eliminate repetitive work

You will work closely with engineering teams to improve reliability, speed, and consistency across environments.

What You’ll Do

Environment & Platform Ownership

  • Create, modify, and support non-production and production-like environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve environment issues (infra, config, deployment)
  • Improve reliability and consistency across environments

Backlog Reduction & Toil Elimination

  • Process and prioritize environment-related requests across multiple teams
  • Identify patterns in repeated requests and eliminate them through automation
  • Replace manual workflows with tooling, templates, and standardized approaches

Infrastructure & Configuration Improvements

  • Work within and improve existing Terraform (legacy + coupled) codebases
  • Help separate infrastructure provisioning from application configuration
  • Improve reuse, modularity, and safety of infrastructure code
  • Be part of an on-call rotation using Pager Duty.

Kubernetes & GitOps Operations

  • Deploy and manage applications in Kubernetes environments
  • Operate and improve Argo CD-based GitOps workflows
  • Manage Helm-based deployments and configuration patterns

CI/CD & Automation

  • Improve CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to reduce environment-specific drift
  • Build scripts/tools to automate repetitive tasks and operations
  • Improve determinism and repeatability of environment creation

Required Skills

  • 8+ years of Software or DevOps Engineering experience, with at least 2 years in relevant (healthcare / medtech) industry experience
  • Terraform or Ansible (required)
    • Real-world experience working in complex or legacy IaC codebases - Crossplane exposure preferred.
  • Kubernetes (required)
    • Strong understanding of deployments, services, config, and troubleshooting
  • Helm (required)
    • Experience managing environment-specific values and deployments
  • Argo CD (required)
    • GitOps workflows, sync/health, debugging drift
  • Docker (required)
  • GitLab + CI/CD (required)
  • Linux fundamentals (required)

Core Capabilities

  • Strong attention to detail in infrastructure and config changes
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent requests and priorities
  • Solid understanding of software delivery processes and environment lifecycle
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience decoupling infra and app configuration
  • Experience reducing ticket-driven operational toil
  • Crossplane (infrastructure abstraction / platform direction)
  • Kyverno (policy-as-code)
  • Cilium / Tetragon (network/security observability)
  • Backstage or developer portals (self-service platforms)

This role will work on-call as needed to manage deployments

Location:

Remote - US

Actual compensation may vary depending on job-related factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and work location.
