It takes powerful technology to connect our brands and partners with an audience of hundreds of millions of people. Whether you’re looking to write mobile app code, engineer the servers behind our massive ad tech stacks, or develop algorithms to help us process trillions of data points a day, what you do here will have a huge impact on our business—and the world.

About the job:

Yahoo is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Technical Program Manager (TPM) to join our Central Technology organization. This group is responsible for building and scaling the core, foundational services and infrastructure that power all Yahoo products—from identity and authentication to core data platforms and cloud infrastructure.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a deep technical background who can drive complex, cross-functional programs from initial concept through deployment and adoption. You will manage roadmaps, orchestrate execution across multiple engineering teams, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure alignment between technical strategy and business goals.

You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development

.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Planning and Execution

  • Define the scope, objectives, and deliverables for large-scale, cross-functional technical programs within the central platform (e.g., migration to a new cloud platform, deployment of a global identity service, or implementation of new security standards).

  • Develop and maintain detailed program schedules, critical path analyses, and capacity plans in collaboration with engineering leads.

  • Drive the execution of the program, tracking progress, managing dependencies, and resolving inter-team blockers to ensure timely delivery.

  • Establish and enforce rigorous Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, ensuring high quality and operational readiness for all platform releases.

2. Stakeholder Management and Communication

  • Act as the primary point of contact for program status, translating complex technical information into clear, concise updates for executive, business, and engineering audiences.

  • Proactively manage and align expectations with engineering teams, product managers, operations, and security teams across the company.

  • Host and facilitate effective cross-functional meetings, ensuring clear outcomes, ownership, and follow-up actions.

  • Maintain or contribute to the organization’s annual plans, BU QBRs and MBRs. Track progress against goals

3. Risk and Resource Management

  • Identify potential risks, dependencies, and bottlenecks early in the development cycle, developing effective mitigation and contingency plans.

  • Manage program budgets and resource allocations, ensuring optimal utilization of engineering capacity.

  • Drive continuous process improvement across the central technology organization to increase efficiency, predictability, and quality.

4. Technical Acumen

  • Possess a strong understanding of foundational infrastructure, including cloud computing (AWS, GCP), networking, distributed systems, and modern software architecture.

  • Partner with engineering leadership to define technical requirements, scope, and non-functional requirements (scalability, performance, reliability, security).

  • Champion operational excellence and the adoption of best practices (e.g., runbooks, monitoring, automated testing) across platform teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager or Project Manager managing complex software and/or infrastructure projects.

  • Demonstrated understanding of core software engineering principles and the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) in an agile environment.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of synthesizing complex technical issues for executive review and technical deep-dives.

  • Proven ability to drive projects independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing large-scale infrastructure or platform programs (e.g., public cloud migrations, MLOps platforms, or globally distributed services).

  • Prior experience as a Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, or equivalent technical role.

  • Familiarity with governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) standards and processes in a large tech company setting.

  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., PMP, CSM, SAFe, or cloud vendor certifications).
