About Multiplayer

We are Multiplayer! We design and build products that work for people, so people can do their best work.

We design product experiences that bring purpose and delight to everyday tasks. Working side by side with our clients, we help rapidly build their internal design capabilities. And we’re dedicated to fostering happiness in our own culture and in every client relationship.

We believe happiness is good business. When people are happier at work, they perform better, think smarter, and achieve more. This belief powers our approach, which we call Happiness by Design.

Let’s build a happier way to work—together.

The person we're looking for

We’re looking for someone who lives in the space between design and engineering.

You’re the person who figures out how the design system actually gets built and maintained. You get a prototype in front of real users before anyone writes production code. You build the Figma plugins, automations, and AI workflows that help a design team move faster without compromising the integrity of the work. Code may be where you spend a lot of your time, but you’d still rather sketch the problem on paper first.

At Multiplayer, you’d be a senior hands-on design technologist. You’ll work side by side with our designers every day, set the technical standards for how design gets built, and partner with our technologists, web developers, and development partners so what we design is what gets shipped. You’ll have real influence over how this practice grows, and you’ll earn it through the work itself.

If your career has been mostly engineering, with designers somewhere down the hall, this probably isn’t the right fit. If you’ve spent years making design and code work together, we’d love to hear from you.

Job Overview

Design systems and front-end craft

  • Build and maintain design systems that hold up across brands, platforms, and engagements, from Figma components through to production code.
  • Design systems with AI as one of their users: structured, well-documented components, tokens, and rules that AI tools and agents can build from reliably.
  • Make sure the designer’s vision survives the build. Prove out the tricky interactions, motion, and details so they work exactly as intended and perform well.
  • Pass that knowledge on to developers, so the design is preserved and they understand how to build it cleanly.
  • Own our front-end standards for code quality, performance, accessibility, and privacy, and help the people building to them get it right.

Prototyping and exploration

  • Build prototypes that answer real questions early, and get them in front of users before the expensive decisions are made.
  • Explore new territory when a project calls for it, including AI-driven experiences, generative pipelines, and hardware or physical computing.
  • Talk through trade-offs clearly with designers, strategists, and clients so the team can make good calls quickly.

Tooling, automation, and AI

  • Build the tools that make our design team faster: Figma plugins, MCP integrations, programmatic component systems, and workflow automation.
  • Bring a practical take on AI to the design process. Automate the repetitive parts so there’s more time for thinking, and know where human judgment still matters.
  • Keep an eye on emerging tools and introduce the ones that genuinely improve the work.

Partnership

  • Be the bridge between our designers and our technologists, web developers, and development partners, translating in both directions.
  • Mentor through the work: pairing, reviewing, and raising the craft of the people around you.
Requirements
  • 8+ years working at the intersection of design and technology, in design technology, creative development, UX engineering, or similar.
  • A portfolio that shows both sides: design work and the code or systems behind it. Work samples we can access, please.
  • Strong front-end skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a modern framework) and real fluency in Figma.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining design systems.
  • A working knowledge of accessibility standards and a habit of designing for them from day one.
  • A minimum 3-hour overlap with Toronto (Eastern) time.

We hope you’ll bring your curiosity to the team, help us keep improving how we work, and leave things a little better than you found them.

Benefits
  • $120,000 - $165,000 annually
  • Work from anywhere
  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Competitive salary
  • Paid time off (over 20 days)
  • Health benefits
  • Training & development opportunities
Portfolio

Your portfolio is your first introduction to us, and the most important part of your application. Show us that you are someone who does great work and who genuinely cares about how it’s presented. We’re looking for evidence that you apply your craft to how you present your work, that you understand your audience, and that you can tell a compelling story about the work you’ve done.

Every portfolio is reviewed by a senior member of our team, and applications will not be considered without one. Because we give each submission real attention, we’d love to see the same care reflected by you. Show us a few projects you’re proud of, and tell us about your process in your own words.

And its food and music scene, low taxes and favorable climate has made the city a destination for tech workers from across the country.

Key Facts About Austin Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 180,500; 13.7% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Dell, IBM, AMD, Apple, Alphabet
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, hardware, cloud computing, software, healthtech
  • Funding Landscape: $4.5 billion in VC funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Live Oak Ventures, Austin Ventures, Hinge Capital, Gigafund, KdT Ventures, Next Coast Ventures, Silverton Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Texas, Southwestern University, Texas State University, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Texas Advanced Computing Center
