Staff Engineer II- Platform Engineer

What you'll do:

As a Staff Engineer II you'll provide expertise in a suite of technical tools and products in a given domain to ensure solutions are safe, secure, compliant and reliable. You'll identify develop and support needs, as well as taking on design responsibilities supporting project tasks. AS the Staff Engineer II, you'll facilitate dialogue and activities to ensure team collaboration including teams outside of your domain. You'll develop effective presentations and narratives for their teams.
You will be responsible for enable scalable, secure, and governed data solutions across the organization. This role focuses on platform reliability, performance, automation, and enablement of data engineering teams, rather than application-specific development.
You will collaborate with architects, data engineers, governance teams, and business stakeholders to implement cloud-first platform design patterns, automation frameworks, and operational best practices, while ensuring strong alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Lead the strategic planning of a project as it relates to technical solution design.
  • Design and implement engineering principles aimed at reliability practices and sound recovery procedures.
  • Design transaction specific application performance monitoring metrics that can be captured and passed to business partners.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations and procedures while also ensuring compliance with IT policies, procedures, and industry standards. Develop desktop procedures when needed that others follow.
  • Build, configure, and manage enterprise data platform services across Azure and Microsoft Fabric environments.
  • Own platform availability, reliability, and performance, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
  • Implement backup, recovery, and failover strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Manage capacity planning, cost optimization, and workload isolation strategies.
  • Implement and manage access controls, RBAC, AD groups, and secure connectivity (Private Link, VNet, Gateways).
  • Ensure platform compliance with enterprise governance, regulatory standards, and audit requirements.
  • Define and implement platform-level monitoring, telemetry, and observability frameworks.
  • Create and maintain architecture diagrams, runbooks, and operational documentation.
  • Support production operations through incident triage, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

What you'll need:

  • 7+ years of related experience in Microsoft Azure Platform or Similar Cloud Platform support experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science & engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Azure & Microsoft Fabric, including Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse, Workspaces, Capacity management, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Key Vault, Azure Monitor
  • Experience with Platform provisioning & automation (ARM, Terraform, YAML pipelines), CI/CD using Azure DevOps, Monitoring & observability frameworks, Security & access management (RBAC, Managed Identity, Service Principals)
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or PySpark
  • Working knowledge of data engineering frameworks and data lifecycle concepts, Fabric capacities, workspace configurations, and environment isolation,Data security, compliance, and governance frameworks
  • Familiarity with data cataloging, lineage, and quality tools (e.g., Informatica, Purview)
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Additional experience with pipeline development and leveraging Azure DevOps while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced ability to see the big picture and align projects with organizational goals. Capable of leading and motivating cross-functional teams. Expertise in resolving conflicts and addressing challenges as well as skilled at identifying and mitigating risks at the project level. Proficient in governance patterns tied to intake, technical reviews and architectural compliance. Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
  • May require up to 25% travel.
