Staff Mobile Engineer (E4)About the Role

Built is looking for a Staff Mobile Engineer (E4) to lead and evolve our mobile platform. This is a senior individual contributor role with broad technical ownership, deep hands-on development, and meaningful influence across the organization.

You’ll serve as the technical owner of the Built Inspection Application, shaping its architecture, performance, reliability, and developer experience. Beyond a single application, you’ll help define how mobile engineering is done at Built - setting standards, influencing roadmaps, and partnering closely with Product, Design, Backend, and Platform teams to ensure mobile is a first-class citizen across our platform.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex mobile problems, thinking at the platform level, and raising the engineering bar through both execution and influence.

What You’ll DoMobile Engineering & Development
  • Design, build, and maintain native iOS (Swift / SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin / Jetpack Compose) applications
  • Own the Built Inspection Application end-to-end, including architecture, quality, stability, and long-term scalability
  • Lead complex feature development from concept through production and post-launch support
  • Architect secure, performant, and maintainable mobile solutions
  • Ensure strong standards for testing, observability, performance, accessibility, and offline/data-sync behavior
Technical Leadership
  • Define and drive mobile engineering standards across Built, including architecture patterns, tooling, CI/CD, testing, and release processes
  • Make thoughtful technical decisions that balance delivery speed with long-term platform health
  • Proactively identify and address technical debt, platform risks, and scalability concerns
  • Act as a subject-matter expert for mobile engineering across the company
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to translate business needs into high-quality mobile experiences
  • Collaborate with Backend and Platform teams to define APIs and end-to-end system behavior
  • Influence product and technical roadmaps through feasibility assessments and tradeoff analysis
Mentorship & Influence
  • Mentor and support other engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and knowledge sharing
  • Help raise the overall engineering bar across the organization
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and the growth of mobile engineering talent at Built
What We’re Looking ForRequired Qualifications
  • Extensive experience building and shipping native mobile applications for both:
    • iOS using Swift and SwiftUI
    • Android using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Experience with local persistence frameworks such as CoreData (iOS) and Room (Android)
  • Proven ability to design, own, and evolve large-scale, production mobile applications
  • Strong understanding of mobile architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, Clean Architecture)
  • Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release workflows
  • Deep knowledge of mobile performance, security, and offline-first or data-sync patterns
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across teams without direct authority
  • Travel Requirement: This role requires approximately <15% travel, as needed to support business priorities
Staff-Level (E4) Expectations
  • Operates with high autonomy and minimal direction
  • Thinks beyond individual features to platform-level impact
  • Makes durable technical decisions with company-wide implications
  • Elevates teammates through mentorship and technical leadership
  • Balances hands-on execution with strategic thinking

Built’s salary range for this position is $185,000-$235,000 USD per year. The pay range is designed to accommodate upward mobility in the role, therefore it encompasses the full span of proficiency levels for this role and we believe that the midpoint of the range is competitive in the market. Salary is just one component of Built's total compensation package for employees. Your total rewards package at Built will include equity, top-notch medical, dental and vision coverage, an unlimited PTO policy, and other benefits.

Travel Requirement: Remote teammates (i.e. not based in Nashville metro) must be able to travel at minimum twice per year to Nashville, TN or another designated location for company-wide events (e.g., "Connect Week"). Additional travel may be required based on business needs and role responsibilities.

Perks:

  • The rare opportunity to radically disrupt a $1.5T industry
  • Competitive benefits including: uncapped vacation, health, dental & vision insurance
  • 401k with match and expedited vesting
  • Robust compensation package, including equity in the form of stock options
  • Flexible working hours, paid family leave, ERGs & Mentorship opportunities
  • Learning grant program to support ongoing professional development
