About Function & Ezra

Function Health was founded with a singular focus: empower you to live 100 healthy years. We’re doing that by using the best available technology to ensure people don’t suffer or die a preventable death. Function has been recognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2024 and is venture-backed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). Hundreds of thousands of members have joined Function to take control of their health.

In 2024, Function acquired Ezra, the leading provider of full-body MRI screening for early cancer detection. Ezra pioneered accessible, AI-enhanced MRI imaging to help people catch cancer and other diseases at their earliest, most treatable stages. By bringing Ezra into Function’s ecosystem, we’re combining world-class diagnostics with advanced lab testing and cutting-edge technology — creating the most comprehensive preventive health platform on the market.

Our Mission at Ezra

Our mission at Ezra is to detect cancer early for everyone in the world. We offer a direct-to-consumer cancer screening service that leverages MRI and Artificial Intelligence to make cancer screening fast, accurate, and affordable. We are fully operational in multiple states such as New York, California, and Florida with an MRI-based full-body program covering 13 organs.

We believe in empowering people to be proactive with their health decisions. Our members sign up for an Ezra, visit a partner imaging center to get an MRI scan, and receive a comprehensive screening report within 10 business days.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a creative and passionate designer to join our team. You will work with our product, engineering and operations teams to create exceptional, user-friendly experiences. You'll work on a cutting-edge product that enables our members to access their health data in real-time, and you'll be challenged to make a difference in people's lives.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working through ambiguity, complex data visualization, meticulous in their attention to detail, self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment. As an early member of our team, your contributions will play a critical role in shaping the future of our member experience as we scale from currently thousands of members to millions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own problems end-to-end: Frame opportunities, map journeys, and ship high-quality UI that moves metrics (activation, conversion, comprehension, retention).
  • Lead research: Plan and run interviews, usability and comprehension tests; synthesize insights into decisions; partner with Data on product analytics and experiments.
  • Design at system level: Extend and maintain a token-based design system (Figma variables) with usage guidelines across web/mobile; ensure state coverage (empty/error/loading), motion, and accessibility.
  • Partner deeply with Product and Engineering: Drive prioritization, write problem statements and success criteria, and ensure crisp handoffs (specs, annotations).
  • Ship, measure, iterate: Define success metrics pre-ship, review instrumentation, analyze impact, and iterate quickly.
  • Champion privacy & accessibility: Design with HIPAA/PHI considerations and WCAG 2.2 AA compliance; advocate for ethical UX in health.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Experience: 6–8+ years in end-to-end product design, with at least 3 years of UI/UX design experience and 2 years of dedicated product design experience required
  • Portfolio: Case studies that show your process, systems thinking, and measurable outcomes (what changed and by how much).
  • Craft: Strong interaction design, information architecture, and visual polish across mobile and web; proficiency with Figma (components, variables, auto-layout, prototyping).
  • Research & Data: Comfortable running studies and using product analytics/experiments to guide decisions.
  • Systems: Experience building/maintaining multi-brand, cross-platform design systems.
  • Collaboration: Excellent written/spoken comms; thrives in fast-paced, ambiguity-heavy environments.

To be a strong fit, you also need:

  • Bias Toward Action: Demonstrated ability to take initiative, make decisions under uncertainty, and move projects forward even in the face of ambiguity. We value individuals who are self-starters and ready to act on opportunities and challenges alike.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Strong adaptability to changing business needs with a knack for building and optimizing processes. Your entrepreneurial mindset will be crucial in navigating the dynamic landscape of our industry, ensuring our platform remains competitive and responsive to user needs.
  • Communication and Accountability: Strong communication skills with a proven track record of meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Remote Work Adaptability: Comfort with remote work environments, demonstrating the ability to stay productive and connected with the team irrespective of physical location.
  • Continuous Improvement: A willingness to question assumptions and a commitment to continuous improvement. Your openness to feedback and dedication to personal and professional growth will contribute significantly to our collective success.

Nice to haves:

While the core competencies are essential, the following qualifications will distinguish exceptional candidates:

Experience designing health or fintech products with sensitive data, or regulated contexts.

Familiarity with biometrics/wearables (e.g., Oura, Apple Watch) and data visualization best practices.

Basic front-end literacy (React/Swift/Kotlin concepts) to collaborate efficiently.

  • Motion and micro-interaction prototypes for comprehension and feedback.

Working model:

  • Location: Remote-first in US or Canada.
  • Time zones: Core overlap 11:00–4:00 ET.
  • Compensation: Competitive salary + equity.
  • Benefits: Medical/dental/vision, wellness stipend, generous PTO, parental leave.
