Our Mission

Healthcare should work for patients, but it doesn’t. In their time of need, they call down outdated insurance directories. Then wait on hold. Then wait weeks for the privilege of a visit. Then wait in a room solely designed for waiting. Then wait for a surprise bill. In any other consumer industry, the companies delivering such a poor customer experience would not survive. But in healthcare, patients lack market power. Which means they are expected to accept the unacceptable.

Zocdoc’s mission is to give power to the patient. To do that, we’ve built the leading healthcare marketplace that makes it easy to find and book in-person or virtual care in all 50 states, across +200 specialties and +12k insurance plans. By giving patients the ability to see and choose, we give them power. In doing so, we can make healthcare work like every other consumer sector, where businesses compete for customers, not the other way around. In time, this will drive quality up and prices down.

We’re 18 years old and the leader in our space, but we are still just getting started. If you like solving important, complex problems alongside deeply thoughtful, driven, and collaborative teammates, read on.

Your Impact on our Mission:

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Appointment Management team at Zocdoc! This team owns the provider calendar and inbox: the core tools healthcare providers use to view, modify, and manage their appointments and availability on Zocdoc. We’re building toward a future where Zocdoc’s calendar is the go-to scheduling system in healthcare, and your work will directly improve how providers run their practices and how patients get care faster.

As a staff engineer at Zocdoc, you’ll balance individual contribution with mentorship. You'll have the opportunity to work across the stack, with an emphasis on frontend development. You’ll take ideas from inception to reality by rapidly building prototypes, iterating and releasing them. You’ll build scalable products that make the healthcare experience for patients, providers, and Zocdocr’s simpler, safer, and more efficient.

To ensure fair consideration, candidates should apply to only one Staff Software Engineer role at Zocdoc. Please avoid submitting multiple applications, as we will review your profile for the most relevant opportunity.

You’ll enjoy this role if you are…

  • Excited by the challenge of improving core scheduling systems that sit at the heart of healthcare delivery
  • Passionate about the user experience
  • A product-driven engineer who loves working in a highly collaborative and supportive environment
  • Motivated by building products that make healthcare easier
  • Excited to use technology to enhance the consumer experience
  • Passionate about building diverse and inclusive teams and culture
  • Excited to lead projects and be a mentor for other engineers

 Your day to day is…

  • Owning the end to end development of consumer facing applications, primarily working on our frontend web apps using React and Typescript.  We also use GQL, C#, and AWS-based microservices
  • Building reliable, performant systems that power Zocdoc’s provider calendar and inbox, handling complex scheduling logic and scalability challenges, and guiding long-term technical strategy
  • Collaborating with our agile team of dedicated and brilliant engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure a polished user experience
  • Championing a culture of engineering excellence, leading by example in code quality, performance, and operational ownership
  • Mentoring your peers, with the notion that helping others means learning and growing yourself
  • Working with cutting edge GenAI tools and technology

You’ll be successful in this role if you have…

  • Passion for technology and the ability to think critically about performance, scalability, and reliability of software
  • Enthusiasm for solving high-impact, system-level problems
  • Empathy for users and a passion for great UX
  • Implemented fast and efficient software solutions using object-oriented or functional languages. Some of the technologies we utilize are C#, Scala, React, and Node.js (note, our interview process is language agnostic)
  • Designed and built user facing web applications that scale
  • 8+ years of significant expertise in full-stack development; experience with design systems and component-based design is a plus
  • Improved developer productivity, efficiency and velocity by setting up the best practices for coding, testing, deployment and observability
  • Successfully mentored other engineers in the past and have encouraged your peers to use engineering best practices
  • Effective communication skills, and the capability to dive into technical details at an appropriate level for technical and non-technical stakeholders

Benefits:

  • Flexible, hybrid work environment
  • Unlimited PTO
  • 100% paid employee health benefit options
  • Employer funded 401(k) match
  • Corporate wellness programs with Headspace and Peloton
  • Sabbatical leave (for employees with 5+ years of service)
  • Competitive parental leave
  • Cell phone reimbursement
  • Great Place to Work Certified
  • Catered lunch everyday along with snacks
  • Commuter Benefits
  • Convenient Soho location for employees based in the NYC metro area
  • Remote-friendly with east coast hours
