What you'll be responsible for:
As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll lead the design and development of scalable platform services, frameworks, and SDKs that accelerate developer productivity and drive innovation across Circle's ecosystem. You'll architect robust APIs, intuitive tools, and integrate emerging technologies like AI to enable next-generation applications. In this role, you'll guide technical decision-making, elevate engineering practices through mentorship and code quality leadership, and shape long-term architectural direction. You'll operate with high autonomy, finding opportunities and delivering solutions that improve performance, usability, and scalability.
What you'll work on:
  • Design and develop scalable SDKs, APIs, and developer tools that improve the Circle platform.
  • Lead system architecture for new and existing services with a focus on performance and reliability.
  • Integrate AI technologies to enable intelligent, next-gen developer experiences.
  • Conduct in-depth code reviews and provide technical mentorship to elevate engineering practices.
  • Partner with Product and cross-functional teams to define technical solutions aligned with business goals.
  • Proactively identify technical gaps and opportunities to increase developer velocity and system efficiency.
  • Champion engineering excellence through test coverage, code quality, and continuous delivery practices.

What you'll bring to Circle
  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience guiding teams through complex architecture and system design.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience using NodeJS/TypeScript, Python, or Java.
  • Deep expertise in SDK and API design, with a track record of building intuitive developer experiences.
  • Strong understanding of scalable software architecture and production-quality deployment.
  • Proficiency in container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes, EKS, or ECS or equivalent experience.
  • Passion for high coding standards, test coverage, and continuous delivery practices.
  • Experience/familiarity with Slack, Apple MacOS and GSuite.
  • Familiarity with generative AI models (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) and crafting effective prompts.

Preferred Requirements
  • Experience crafting developer-friendly SDKs that are easy to use and hard to misuse.
  • Familiarity with using AI/ML to improve developer tools and applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).

Starting pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to: relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note that compensation ranges may differ for candidates in other locations.
Base Pay Range:
$172,500 - $227,500
