Instrument is a design and technology company. We build brands, products, and experiences that move businesses forward—by making the complex simple.

For over 20 years, we’ve partnered with companies like Google, ServiceNow, Uber, Eventbrite, and ŌURA, helping them navigate change, launch new ideas, and grow with intention.

Our work spans Brand, Marketing, and Product, but what defines us is how we work. We bring strategy, design, and engineering together from the start, moving quickly from idea to execution and refining as we go. We aim to do great work and be great to work with, because both matter.

We’re a collaborative, hands-on team with roots in Portland and New York and a distributed presence across the U.S. and Europe. We build teams around the needs of the work, staying nimble without sacrificing craft.

We value curiosity, perspective, and continuous learning, and we’re committed to building an inclusive environment where people can do their best work.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.

The best strategy isn't built in isolation. It's built by connecting people, disciplines, and ideas around a shared vision.

That's what this role is all about.

As Strategy Director, you'll become a trusted strategic partner to one of the world's leading technology companies, guiding work that spans digital products, content, websites, marketing, and brand. You'll help clients navigate complexity, mentor a team of exceptional strategists, and uncover new opportunities to grow one of Instrument's most important partnerships.

If you're excited by executive client relationships, love developing people, and find energy in solving complex business challenges—not just delivering projects—you'll feel right at home here.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as a senior strategic partner for one of Instrument's largest enterprise clients, helping shape long-term strategic direction across a diverse portfolio of work.
  • Build trusted relationships with executive client stakeholders while partnering closely with cross-functional leaders across strategy, design, technology, production, research, and growth.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of strategists, fostering strategic excellence while helping individuals develop their craft and careers.
  • Guide teams through complex business challenges by connecting insights, identifying opportunities, and creating alignment across multiple workstreams.
  • Partner with account leadership to identify opportunities for growth, contribute to pitches and proposals, and strengthen long-term client partnerships.
  • Facilitate workshops, presentations, and strategic conversations that inspire confidence, drive alignment, and help clients make informed decisions.
  • Raise the bar for strategic quality by coaching teams, providing thoughtful feedback, and helping evolve how strategy is practiced across the studio.

What You'll Bring

    • Experience leading strategy for complex digital, product, brand, or experience initiatives within an agency, consultancy, or in-house organization.
    • A track record of building trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders and confidently navigating ambiguity, competing priorities, and difficult conversations.
    • Experience leading and developing strategists or multidisciplinary teams, creating an environment where people can grow and produce exceptional work.
    • Demonstrated success contributing to account growth through strategic consulting, business development, pitches, or identifying new opportunities within existing client relationships.
    • The ability to think broadly across product, digital experience, content, marketing, and brand strategy, connecting work across disciplines to solve business challenges.
    • Experience working with enterprise organizations; B2B technology experience is a strong plus.
    • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence both clients and internal teams.
