Job Description:
Overview:
The GIS Intern provides technical support for mapping, spatial analysis, and data management tasks across a variety of engineering and planning projects. This role assists in the preparation of geospatial deliverables for internal teams and external clients, while gaining hands-on experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS suite, GPS data collection, and web-based mapping applications.
Responsibilities:
∙ Create and update maps, figures, and exhibits using ArcGIS Pro and other GIS software.
∙ Perform spatial and tabular data analysis to support engineering, planning, and environmental projects.
∙ Digitize features from aerial imagery, construction plans, and field data.
∙ Conduct GPS data collection and coordinate data integration with GIS systems.
∙ Prepare geospatial deliverables for internal teams and external clients.
∙ Work with web-based mapping applications and assist in publishing and maintaining web maps and dashboards.
∙ Organize, maintain, and archive geospatial data, project files, and map libraries.
∙ Compile information and respond to internal and external data requests.
∙ Support QA/QC procedures by reviewing GIS data for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
∙ Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to meet project goals and deadlines.
Qualifications:
∙ Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Science (GIS), Geography, Geospatial Technology, or a related field.
∙ At least one year of academic experience using ESRI’s ArcGIS suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online).
∙ Understanding of geospatial concepts, including coordinate systems, projections, spatial data models, and cartographic design.
∙ Familiarity with GPS equipment and mobile data collection tools (e.g., Collector, Field Maps).
∙ Ability to read and interpret construction plans and aerial/orthophotography.
∙ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
∙ Strong organizational and time management skills in a deadline-driven environment.
∙ Effective communication and collaboration skills across teams.
∙ Reliable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
