The supplier engineer manufacturing focal (SE Mfg Focal) is responsible for providing technical leadership to the assigned manufacturing operations team and managing overall supplier quality management systems, ensuring process controls are established and adhered to throughout the supplier’s entire manufacturing process and supply chain. The SE Mfg Focal engages early in supplier fault quality excursions, providing expertise in root cause corrective actions and 8D problem solving. The SE Mfg Focal supports customer and factory escalations by driving supplier corrective actions.

The SE Mfg Focal team is a supportive, cross-functional team with many different skillsets and experiences, lending itself to many learning opportunities from within the team. Additionally, Applied Materials has extensive internal and external training programs offering various certifications and development opportunities tailored specifically for the engineer’s skill sets and goals. The highly dynamic workload is project-focused, allowing the engineer to manage individual work schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads quality problem resolutions and incident management, drive root cause, preventative and corrective actions.  
  • Collaborating with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Global Supplier Engineering for their technical expertise to obtain rapid supplier resolutions.  
  • Drive systemic supplier performance improvement plans and projects for reducing quality defects and improve supplier’s capability.
  • Conduct process and part audits at supplier sites – part to print verification, quality management system review, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Train and develop suppliers to comply with Applied’s quality methodologies – 8D, responding to non-conformances, change management controls, failure analysis.
  • Proliferate key learnings and BKMs into the supply base.
  • Prepare and present executive summaries on supplier capabilities, customer and factory escalations.

The preferred candidate will have extensive experience in

  • Direct manufacturing and industry experience in precision machining, OEM products, contract manufacturing, and special finishing processes such as painting, coating, plating, and cleaning.
  • Well versed in quality management systems and methodologies.
  • Value Stream Mapping
  • Creative problem solving
  • Manufacturing/machining process development and qualification
  • Program/project management
  • Sound knowledge of GD&T and Engineering Drawing Interpretation
  • Design of Experiments, statistical process control methods, and theory
  • PFMEA
  • Knowledge of Metrology design and Optical/Contact Measurement Equipment
  • Understanding the broad scope of a factory’s methods and processes:  material control, inspection/QC, cleaning, 5S, tool crib, tool life management, detailing, packaging.
  • Working knowledge of Excel and SAP
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong team player

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
